Rehoboth has
transformed
into adulthood
By ANISSA CLEMONS
Staff Writer
Rehoboth Baptist Chape! will
become Rehoboth Baptist Church
Feb. 7 when it officially "comes of
age" at the church constitution
celebration.
According to Pastor John
Waters, RBC held its first worship
service Feb. 7, 1988 and has gone
through five years of "childhood" to
transition into its current
"adulthood." Until now RBC had a
county-wide association of churches
as sponsors. He said the church has
been weaned to be self-supporting
financially, self-governing and self
directing. "Now our future failures
and successes depend on us."
The church constitution celebra
tion, which begins at 4 p.m., will
consist of a worship service and
business time. "We can not do
business without worshiping,"
Waters said. He attributes the
church's ability to constitutionally
become a church to Jesus Christ.
Waters said, "It's very exciting.
However, I'm cautious because I
want people to understand what be
ing a church really means. It's not
just a social group. A lot of
churches call themselves churches,
and they're not."
The mission of RBC, according
to Waters, "is to reach all people
for Christ and to disciple them to
become mature servants of God.

Spotlight on Your Church
Rehoboth Baptist will celebrate church constitution services Feb. 7, just five years
after holding its first worship service in 1988.
"This gives direction to all our
programs, plans anil decisions. That
mission is the reason for our exis
tence."
RBC has worship service at 11
a.m. and 7 p.m. Sundays and at
6:45 p.m. Wednesdays. Sunday
school and Bible study is at 9:45
a.m. Sundays. "Os ail our programs
that's number one because the
purpose of it is to reach people
through life-changing Bible study,"
Waters said.

Discipleship training, which in
cludes Baptist Men, Baptist
Women, Royal Ambassadors and
Girls in Action, is also held
Wednesday nights. During Sunday
worship services, a "pre-school" is
taught for children. Waters said,
"It's not a nursery or a babysitting
service. Pre-school is a teaching and
learning time. 1 believe that no
where in Houston County are there
better pre-school workers than at
Rehoboth because they're well

The church has grown to 146
members, with 90-100 members at
tending Sunday worship. "We've
had a slow, steady growth. 1 think
the verbal witness of our church
members has made a difference,"
Waters said.
"There's no way we could name
every person who's been instrumen
tal to the development of RBC.
"First Baptist of Perry has been
more supportive than anyone else,"
Waters said.
