Harvey's officials announce Perry closing

Come Sunday, Feb. 27, there
will be one less grocery store in
Perry.
J.H. Harvey and Company, the
owner of the Harveys Supermarket
located on Sam Nunn Boulevard,
has announced that it will be shut
ting down its operations here at the
close of business Saturday, Feb.

Women’s Club recognizes Marti

Marti Marchant-Tolleson from
Perry and C. Jeanene Fowler
Coleman, Warner Robins, vied for
the title of Young Careerist in a
contest sponsored by the Warner
Robins Business and Professional
Women’s Club.
The contest was held at a dinner
meeting on Thursday, February 17,
at Richard’s in Warner Robins.
The purpose of the contest is to
recognize outstanding young busi
nesswomen in the area and to en
courage them to become members
of the Business Women’s Clubs.
From the local level, winners ad
vance to the district, and to state
level. Five districts in Georgia will
compete for the state title.
The community's sympathy is ex
tended to the families of those who
recently died. They include:Aubrey
Denise Harrell, Macon; Paul Gene
Clark, Perry. For more information

The official announcement came
to the Houston Times-Journal by
way of a phone conversation with
Barry Robinson, the company’s ex
ecutive vice president, on Thursday
morning. The store’s staff, how
ever, were told of the closing in a
store-wide meeting on Monday. A
public announcement from the
company is scheduled to be made
via a full page advertisement in the

the busy thoroughfare and the
promise of turn lanes and traffic
signals fast becoming a reality.

hospital in Perry and the surround
ing communities. She is also re
sponsible for internal and external
relations, publications, special
events, physician relations and me

She was formerly Director of
Public Relations/Marketing at Jeff
Davis Hospital in Hazlehurst, Ga.,
and completed her internship at
South Georgia College in
Statesboro, Ga. where she was edi
tor of the alumni newsletter, wrote
press releases, designed, pho
tographed and printed layouts for
local and area newspapers and cre
ated brochures for college functions.
She was a member of Leadership
Perry 1993, is a member of Public
Relations Society of America, the
Rural Hospital Committee of The
Georgia Society for Hospital
Marketing and Public Relations,
the Houston County Board of
Directors of the American Heart
Association and the Exchange Club
of Perry.
She was named to Outstanding
Young Women of America in
January 1991 and Who’s Who

at new theater Feb. 25
"The Music Man” will be march
ing across Perry Players’ new stage
beginning Friday, Feb. 25 at 8
p.m.

mance of an American Classic. The
Music Man' opened on Broadway in
1957 and after working with this
wonderful cast I am assured that our
rendition captures all the joy and
love Meredith Willson intended it

Ga. National Fair to sponsor
'Fair Bear' story competition
The Georgia National Fair
announces its first statewide writing
competition. Fourth, fifth and
sixth graders from public and
private schools, accredited by the
Georgia Accrediting Commission,
are encouraged to write a story
about "Fair Bear."
"The Georgia National Fair is
thrilled to sponsor this
competition," said Michael A.
Froehlich, executive director of the
Georgia National Fairgrounds &
Agricenter. "The Fair is proud of
Georgia's youth and is dedicated to
education."
Fair Bear is the official mascot
for the state-sponsored, fifth annual
Georgia National Fair, October 7-
16. To promote youth
participation, the Fair is sponsoring
a writing competition. Students are
invited to write a story about Fair
Bear, an American black bear who
roamed around the property of the
Georgia National Fairgrounds &
Agricenter. Last year Fair Bear was
hit by a car on Interstate 75. The
stories will be judged on interest,
information, imagination,
originality, focus and grammar.
There will be several levels of

wide competition will qualify for
the final competition and a chance
to win a $250 savings bond and an
all expense-paid trip to the Georgia
National Fair. Each school system
may submit only one story from
each grade level for the final
competition to be held at the
Georgia National Fairgrounds &
Agricenter. Final winners will be
chosen by a panel of judges selected
from Georgia's Teachers of the Year
and will be announced in August.
A major objective of the Fair is
to promote education and youth
activities. This is achieved through
the Fair's school field trip program.
Students, teachers and chaperones
are admitted to the Georgia National
Fair at no charge. Last year, the
Georgia National Fair hosted
14,904 students, teachers and
chaperones on 241 trips from 61
counties.

showcases the best of Georgia’s
agriculture, crafts, heritage and
people in a clean, friendly, safe and
