Hit OS His Ear.
About a dozen from Gainesville went
on an excursion to Atlanta last Satur
day, among- the number being- young
John Lipscomb, who got into a row
with a man named Nix from Clarks
ville, Lipscomb knocked Nix down on
the car on the return trip and while he
was on Nix the latter bit off a portion
of Lipscomb’s ear.

and John Scroggins visited Gainesville

Messes S. A. Oliver and W. L. King
are trying to get those evangelists to
come back from Franklin county and
preach for us again.
Mr. S. A. Oliver has been quite busy

Mrs. J. B. Orr is very sick at this

Insurance agents are as numerous as
pig tracks in this locality, and a heap
more so. for there are plenty of agents
and no pigs at all.
Mr. Walter Simpson, who pr efer
bachelor life rather than married life,
and lives on Mr John Kennedy’s place,
had his horse very much disfigured by
some one cutting it’s -mane and tail a
few nights ago, while hitched to a shade

Picnicked At Duncan’s Mill.
The First Baptist, Hobbs’ chapel and
Pftesbyterian Sunday Schools pic
nicked at Duncan’s mill yesterday, and
all who attended had a very pleasant
day of it. Busses and private convey
ances carried out and brought back
the three schools. A splendid basket
dinner was spread at noon, and the
little folks especially enjoyed them
selves.

Mr. Ellison Van Hoose arrived in
the city Monday to spend a month
with home folks. He is one of the
foremost tenors m America, and has
sung in concert with the leading stars
of this and the old country. He was
recently signally honored by receiving
a special command to sing at the cor
onation concert of King Edward VII,,
on July 5tb., but as he could not reach
there before J uly 7th, he had to de
cline the honor. Mr. Van Hoose’s rise
in the musical world has been rapid,
and today he stands in the front rank.
Mr. Van Hoose will sail for a tour of
Europe the latter part of June.
