Dizziness, spells of blindness, head
ache and sour stomach are caused by
torpid liver and constipated bowels.
Pbickly Ash Bittjezbs removes the
cause of the trouble and puts the sys

The Congressional election will
be held next Tuesday, November
4th. Tickets and blanks have been
sent oat by the Ordinary, and the
managers will hold the election
all right. As Congressman Tate
has no opposition there will likely
be a light vote polled.
It is understood that a cosiderable
scramble will ensue for the office of
Judge and Solicitor of Hall citv court.
It is said that both Judge G. H. Prior
and Col. Howard Thompson are appli
cants for the position. Col. Thompson
denies that he is an applicant, how
ever, but it is said by the knowing
-ones that he hopes the lighting may
^strike him on the “dark horse idea,”
there being some who are opposed to
t;he present encumbent, and who will
sirge his appointment by the governor
on the grounds that it would be satis
factory to all elements of the county.
For Solicitor of the city court, Col.
Fletcher M. Johnson is the only appli-
-cant so far. Col. J. C. Boone has been
prominently spoken of in this connec
tion, but he says he has no application
■on file with the governor, nor will he
likely have. This is because, he says,
that a bill will pass at this sessiop to
either make the Solicitor General of
. the Northeastern circuit the solicitor of
the city court, or to submit the selec
tion of a solicitor of the city court to
the people and if an appointment was
made it would be held up by Senator
Perry until an election could be held,
=and, therefore, it would not be con
firmed.
The outcome of these contests will be
watched with considerable interest by
the people of the county. There is yet
no telling who will get these plums, as
it is not known what kind of a bill will
be put through the legislature, if
Mr. G. E. Cochran
has returned
from Atlanta, and says he will be giv
en twenty five days time as assistant
doorkeeper of the house by Doorkeeper
Williford.

Plans Hay© Been Accepted
Mr. J. W. Golucke, who has
been employed by the city to pre
pare plans and specifications for
the new city public school build*
ing, was here last Wednesday af
ternoon and met with the mayor
and council. He presented his
plans and specifications, and they
were accepted by council. He is
now having the blue prints made
to submit to contractors, and the
contract will be let on the 6th of
November at the city hall in
Gainesville.
It is probable that the contract
will be let to a home man, pro
vided one puts in the lowest
bid. The city will have a local
man to assist in the overseeing of
the job, to see that the city’s in
terests are protected in every
way.
As soon as the contract is let
work will be commenced at once.
It will require considerable time
to build the the house as it will be
a large one, capable of seating
200 pupils.
Probably next week we will
have a cut of the new building as
it will appear when completed.

New Wholesale Firm.
Mr. R. Palmour has purchased
interest in the wholesale gro
cery business of B. H. Merck A
Co., and from this date will be as
sociated with that firm. This
gives this already successful house
a new aud strong business man,
who is well known to the commer
cial w orld. The business will be
greatly enlarged, and new quar
ters will be secured. It is under
stood that Mr. Palmour will build
a two-story brick building on his
vacant lot on the corner beyond
his residence, and about the first
of January the firm will occupy
this, using the second story for a
cigar factory and a tobacco house
The other members of the firm,
Messrs Merck & Harris, are hust
lers and it can be depended upon
that they will do their share of
the business.

BEGIN LAYING TRACK TO
MORROW-
The Electric Railway Company
will begin laying track for the
railroad tomorrow. The work was
>to have commenced yesterday
morning, but because there was
not a clear understanding between
the city and the company as to
the cut for the track in the streets,
the work was postponed until a
meeting of the city council and
General Warner and his people
could be held. This meeting will
occur sometime today and the
matter will be settled. Tomor
row morning Mr. J. A. Kidd will
put a large force of hands to work
making the cut for the track and
putting down the crossties and
rails.
The last piece of the dynamo
for the Chestatee dam will reach
there today, and the work of in
stalling the dynamo will com
mence. it is expected that it will
be in place and in working order
in thirty days. The piece which
was taken from the main body of
the dynamo left th6 city early
yesterday morning add will be at
the dam site by this afternoon.
Today the wiring force is about
eight miles from the city and in
about a week’s time will have the
wires strung from the city to the
dam. It can be safely counted on,
therefore, that by the first day of
December the lights will be turned
on in Gainesville. -
All the material for laying the
track, l. e., enough to start on, is
already here. Three cars of rails
have arrived, and that is enough
to lay the track from the South
ern depot to the public square.
