A New York police sergeant was
somewhat astonished a night or
two ago when two soldiers of the
regular army, just back from tbe
Philippines, walked into his offiec-
at the station and planked dowr
on his desk a $5 gold piece, which
they said was m payment, with
interest, of a loan of $2 he had
made to them four years ago. And
not only did they discharge their
debt, but brought back for*the
sergeant from the Philippines sev
eral curios by way of emphasizing
their appreciation of hie kindness.
If all men were as honest and as
appreciative as these two soldiers,
there would be little use for court-
and detectives.
