On the Anxious beau
There are candidates galore for
•each of the positions to be filled
by the council on the first meet
ing night in January, and the al
dermen are being seen on all sides.
There are more candidates for
jpl&cos on the police force than for
anything else. But, all cannot be
elected, and it is safe to say that
the '“defeated” will be in the great
sn«jori£y, therefore, they needn’t
get lonely.

4 A Runaway Marriage.
Last Sunday night Judge W. N. Dyer
was rudely awakened, and on going to
the door en deshabille was told to
“produce” a marriage license. He
begged for time to put on bis “breeches
before admitting the prospective bride
and groom, and in a few moments had
the couple admitted to his presence.
Askiqg for the names- and same being
hastily given, he soon had the proper
papers drawn up. Then he was im
portuned to perform the ceremony.
This he^refused to do, but cited the
runaways to ’Squire A. G. Dorsey,
who tied knot in apple-pie order, and
the happy couple went their way re-
joiceing. The bride was Miss Annie
Hulsey, and the groom was Mr. A. T.
Faulkner, both of Bellton.

MUHLTS TURNED ON.
The electric lights were turned on in
rthe city last Monday afternoon at 4
♦o’clock, from the Cbestatee dam. They
•certainly help the appearance of the
stores and business houses and those
who have them are delighted. The
lights, so far, are very good, and no
<ioabt will continue so. They would
have been turned on last Friday if all
connections could have been made in
time. Everything is working smoothly
at the plant, and the company can pro-
iinise good service.

Mr. Andrew Thompson last Saturday
sold to the Gainesville Cotton Mills
sixty bales of cotton, for which he re
ceived $2,150. This was a good lot of
cotton, and was raised by Mr. Thomp
son on his farm near the city. He is
one of Hall’s best farmers and a most
excellent citizen.
A flood of anti-trust bills have been
introduced in congress. The bills from
the Republican side are merely a grand
stand play, but the Democratic means
business. It is safe to predict, how
ever, that no legislation will be enacted
by the Republicans which will hurt the
trusts.—Thotnasville Times.
