River's Freakish 'Movement.
Tlie Cumberland river lias the dis
tinction of leaving its home state and
entering It again. It flows through the
eaateru and south-central part of the
■tate, then tarns south into Tennessee,
but farther west enters Kentucky
again and Joins the Ohio, a few miles
enst of the mouth of.the Tennessee
river.

An arch-enemy of clover, is the

Observers of nature are frequently
struck with the singular resemblances
of Insects to leaves, dried sticks dnd so
forth, and these ^likenesses are- sup
posed to have grown out of the ueces-
>lty of protection against or conceal-;
ment from enemies. An interesting
example of this kind of resemblance
was recently cited by . a government
naturalist, who exhibited a spider
found Inhabiting some rocks neur
Cunnes, oh which were also fastened
