There was a “Book Reception” at the
Seminary last night for the benefit of
the library. Each person was expected
to bring a book, and thereby help in
crease the list of publications m the
library. Mrs. Bloomstin and Miss
Merritt received the guests and made
the reception a very pleasant one.
It was Cold.
About the coldest weather of the
winter was felt this week. Wednesday
was an exceedingly disagreeable day,
and nobody except those who were
compelled to go out showed up on the
streets. So far the winter has been
very mild, and a good deal of disagree
able weather is anticipated.
Was Very Nervous
Mad Smothering Spells and Could
Not Sleep—Doctors Called It
Neuralgia and Indigestion.
“I had pains in my head, neck and
shoulders and all through my body but
they were most severe in my left side.
The doctor called it neuralgia and in
digestion. I was cdnfined to my bed for
eight months. I was very nervous, had
smothering spells and could not sleep. I
read of cures by Hood’s Sarsaparilla and
of a case similar to mine. My husband
procured a bottle, and I began taking it.
After taking one b&ttle I felt better, was
able to rest and my appetite improved. I
continued until my nervousness was
cured and I was much better in every
way. My husband has also been bene
fited by Hood’s Sarsaparilla.” Maky S.

J. G. Hynds Company. He makes’a

Back from Washington.
Colonel Howard Thompson is back
from a trip to Washington where he
spent several days on private business.
He had a very pleasant trip, but will
no doubt like Washington better when
he goes there as the representative of
the people of the ninth congressional
district. There was no political sig
nificance attached to his trip.
New Street Car.
Mr. D. E. Evans’ new street car has
been completed and was put on the
line several days ago. It is a splendid
car, and is well heated and comfortably
constructed. The car presents a, nice
appearance and doubtless Mr, Evans
line will be more popular than ever.
The car was built'by Messrs. G. W.
Walker & Son.

To be Tried Monday.
W. P. Cape has been indicted by the
grand jury for killing J. J. Pool, near
Lula, last August. The trial has been
set for Monday in the superior court,
and will likely attract a good deal of
attention. The circumstances of the
killing are fresh in the minds of the
public, it being remembered that Cape
stabbed Pool to death in a difficulty
about a young lady.

Miss Ada Evelyn Lewis, who won the
hearts of all of our people by her
charming manners and delightful reci
tations during last summer's Chautau
qua, will give a recital ‘ at the Audi
torium next Friday night, the 28th
We want everybody in Gainesville who
can possibly do so to attend this recital
first, because all who attend will be
richly repaid for so doing by the real
enjoyment that the entertainment will
afford them, and second because Miss
Lewis, a most worthy young lady, is
endeavoring by her own efforts to take
another course in one of our great
schools of oratory. She is a southern
girl of unusual talent and merit, and
we sincerely hope that all our people
will hear her and guarantee that her
entertainment will be one of the best
ever heard in Gainesville.
Her program will be as follows:
1. The Newsboy’s Friend.
2. Aunt Hilly’s Account of the Fun
eral.—Kate D. Wiggin.

arrested, all being charged with illicit
distilling. They were carried before
Judge Gaston, who bound them over

In Florida.
Auditor G. H. Fuller and Captain
Clark of the Gainesville, Jefferson &
Southern railroad are in Florida on a
pleasure trip, and will not return to
the city before about the first of Feb

and efficient officers of the road, and
deserve the rest they are now enjoying.
Mr. T. M. Bryson is in charge of Cap
