Mr. John D. Simmons, one of
the most prominent citizens of
Hall county who died last Satur
day, was buried in the family bury
ing ground at Candler last Sun
day. ( Rev, J. R. Jones, pastor of
the Methodist church, officiated at
the funeraly and six of his grand
sons, J. D. Chamblee, W. C. Smith,
J. T. Chamblee, W. Z. Hancock,
R. D. Hancock and John D. Sim-

In the Alabama constitution
good character forms a clause to
give the franchise to citizens who
otherwise could pot vote. It ap
pears that many negroes will thus
earn the right to vote and ‘they
will form a union to protect them
selves from the idle, vagrant ne
gro class that is an injury to the
negro race in the South.
