Carla McNair Claymore

Carla McNair Claymore,
7 5 of
Gainesville
passed
away at
dawn on
Monday
Oct. 8,2018
after a long
illness.
She was
an Angelina born on Nov. 18,
1942, to Captain, later Colo
nel, Donald Carl McNair,
U.S. Army, and Elizabeth
Porter McNair, his wife. At
the time of her birth, Carla’s
father was stationed with
the anti-aircraft artillery in
the Panama Canal Zone. As
an Army brat Carla lived
many places in the U.S. and
in Japan.
When it was time for her
to select a college, her father
was stationed at Fort Mon
roe in Hampton, VA.
She selected Longwood
College in Farmville, VA to
study education. She gradu
ated in 1964 and fulfilled her
lifelong dream of becoming
a teacher.
On D-Day 1965, she mar
ried Ensign Peter Gayton
Claymore and became a
Navy officer’s wife. She con
tinued to teach until they
were transferred to New
York. After taking some
time off for the birth of her
child and some health prob
lems, she returned to work
at Sears Roebuck, later
becoming one of the top
sales people in the country,
and retiring as Home Fash
ions Merchant for the Wash
ington, DC district.
Upon retirement she and
Peter moved to Gaines
ville, Ga., to be near their
son and family so she could
watch her grandchildren
grow and was proud to see
them become capable,
talented young people. In
Gainesville, she was active
in social, civic and creative
activities. She loved doing
needlework and was adept
at it. She also enjoyed travel,
reading, learning, and poli
tics as long as she was physi
cally able.
Carla is survived by Peter,
her husband of 53 years;
son Carl Craig Claymore;
daughter-in-law, Jaime
Claire Madsen Claymore;
granddaughter, Sophia Rene
Claymore; grandson, Con
nor James Claymore; sister,
Donna Lyons and family and
brother, John McNair and
family.
Carla was cremated and
will ultimately be laid to
rest in the columbarium at
Arlington National Cem
etery where her parents
are interred. A Celebration
of Life Service will be held
Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m.
in the Chapel of Little & Dav
enport Funeral Home. The
family will receive friends
one hour prior to service
time.

dation or to the Humane
Society of Northeast Geor
gia in honor of Carla’s angel
rescue poodle, Pepper.

Billy Joe Goble Jr. passed
away on Thursday, Oct. 18,
after an extended illness.
He was much-loved and will
be missed
by all who
knew him.
He was
preceded
in death by
his mother

father William Goble, as
well as his sisters Margaret
Clement, Betty White, and
Elizabeth Buice.
He is survived by his
wife of 67 years, Margaret
Jackson Goble, daughter
Donna Sullivan, daughter
and son-in-law Beverly and
Tim Knight, and his daugh
ter and son-in-law Tracy
and Joe Morris. Additional
family members include his
grandchildren Dana Jack
and her husband Randy,
Dani Coxville and her hus
band Chad, Matt Knight and
his wife Emily, Daye Sulli
van, Chris Knight and Jake
Morris. He was blessed with
many great-grandchildren
including Seth, Luke, Owen
and Hannah Jack, Cade,
Cam and Casen Coxville, as
well as Hudson and Brooks
Knight.
Mr. Goble overcame
extreme difficulties in his
childhood to live a good
and productive life. Voted
most athletic boy, Billy let
tered 11 times at Avondale
High School where he ran
track and played football,
baseball and basketball.
He turned down college
basketball scholarships to
proudly serve his country
as a combat sergeant in the
Korean War. Later in life,
he was often seen wearing
a cap commemorating that
service.
After his military service,
he attended Georgia Tech to
became a licensed surveyor
and landscape architect. He
owned his own company and
was considered an expert in
just about any topic relating
to land and development.
He was a brilliant math
ematician who often tried
to convey his insights but
rarely found anyone who
could understand on his
level. He loved horses and
raised them for much of his
life. In his younger years,
he was the go-to guy for
breaking and training even
the most spirited horses.
He was an excellent dancer
and loved to sing with fam
ily and friends, especially
classic gospel songs. After
his retirement, he enjoyed
visiting garage sales looking
for hidden treasures, most
of which he gave away to
brighten someone else’s day.
He was a lifelong Chris
tian and an active member
North Metro Church. His
faith was evidenced by his
constant efforts to perform
random acts of kindness
earning him the love and
respect of all who knew him.

Rachel Whitmire Helton,
74 of Gainesville reached
her heavenly home on
Thursday, Oct. 25,2018.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Albert, “Jr”
Helton, parents, M. D. and
Rena Whitmire, brother,
L. D. Whitmire and niece,
Shelly Worden.
She is survived by her
sons, Jeff (Tina) Helton
and Jason
(Stacy)
Helton;
grand
children,
Alissa Hel
ton, Cooper
and Sara
Rachel
Helton;
sister, Peggy (Lewis) Spain;
niece, Dena (Larry) Grizzle
and nephew, Mickey Spain;
and other family members
and special friends, Barbara
Williams and Sue Sosebee.
Rachel loved gospel
music, shopping, crocheting
and antique car shows, and
loved to eat at the Waffle
House. She loved her fam
ily and enjoyed going to
her grandchildren’s events,
horse shows and baseball
games.
She was an active mem
ber of Dewberry Baptist
Church #1 where she played
piano and sang in the choir
for many years and was a
member of the Wall Watch
ers SS Class. She served
as piano player and sang
many years at Morningside
Assisted Living. Funeral
services will be held at 2
p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018,
at Dewberry Baptist Church
#1. Dr. Brad Reynolds and
Rev. Henry Loggins will offi
ciate. Interment will follow
in the church cemetery. The
family will receive friends
at the funeral home Satur
day, Oct. 27, 2018, from 3-5
and 6-8 p.m.

County, Mrs. Roberts was

She was

and was a
homemaker. Mrs. Roberts
was a member of Harmony
Hall Baptist Church.
Survivors include her hus
band of 55 years, Clifford
Roberts, Talmo; daughter
and fiance, Renee Gable,
Murrayville and Earl
Gooch; son, Robby Roberts;
brother, Robert “Bobby”
Marchbanks, Hoschton;
grandchildren, Cory Gea-
rin (Amanda), Dawsonville;
Courtney Stevens (Chris),
Murrayville. A number of
nieces, nephews and other
relatives also survive.

son of the late Ralph and
Thelma Toney White. Mr.
White was a Marine Veteran
of the Korean War, retired
from Bell South with 42
years of service, a lifetime
member of the V.F.W. and
a member of C.W.A. Local
Union with Bell South. He
was a member of Belmont
Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents,
Mr. White is preceded in
death by his sisters, Martha
Sheets and Louise White.
Mr. White is survived by
his daughter, Aubrey White
of Gainesville; grandchil
dren, Mikah White, Damari
White, Armonie White and
best friend, Carolyn White
of Gainesville and several
nieces and nephews.
