Student, band
honored with
scholarship
A student and her high school
marching band have been named
the 2018 recipients of the 15th
annual Bob Hope Band Scholar
ship Award.
Abby Matthews, a 16-year-old
clarinet player, and the Wildcat
Marching Band from Woodland
High School in Bartow County will
perform today in the 92nd Annual
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The award is based on merits
of an essay competition about Bob
Hope and the importance of giving
back.
Macy’s and the Bob & Dolores
Hope Foundation have presented
the scholarship award for the past
15 years. It’s designed to honor one
outstanding band member and
their school band program partici
pating in the Macy’s Thanksgiving
Day Parade.
The parade airs today on NBC.

Sheriff: Julio Jones’
relatives wounded in
trailer park shooting
MAGNOLIA SPRINGS —
Authorities say four relatives of
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver
Julio Jones have been wounded in
a shooting at an Alabama trailer
park.
Al.com reports Baldwin County
Sheriff Hoss Mack says the cause
of the Sunday shooting remains
unclear. He says Jermain Dicker-
son, Tamarius Dickerson and Roy-
ald Jones confronted Jahlen Baker
at gunpoint in Magnolia Springs.
Mack says the Dickersons and
Baker are brothers, and Royald
Jones is a cousin. Mack says Julio
Jones is either a cousin or uncle to
the men.
He says Baker was shot in the
abdomen and remains in critical
condition. The other three were
taken to a hospital and are in stable
condition or have been released.
Mack says guns and marijuana
were recovered at the scene. He
says charges are pending, and the
investigation is ongoing.
Officers fatally shoot
man who fired at them
outside Walmart
TALLADEGA — Officers shot
and killed a man who police say
opened fire on them outside a
Walmart. A second person was
found dead in the man’s car.
State Bureau of Investigation Lt.
Jon Riley says the officers were
responding to a call reporting a
possible kidnapping about 4:30
a.m. Wednesday in Talladega.
Al.com reports the man and
the person whom he was accused
of abducting were found dead in
his vehicle. Riley says authorities
don’t know if the suspect and vic
tim knew each other.
One officer was shot and another
was injured, but not by gunfire.
They’re both expected to recover.
Woman indicted for
murder in ’17 stabbing
MONTGOMERY - A woman
has been indicted on a murder
charge after a stabbing death.
The Montgomery Advertiser
reported that a grand jury has
indicted 33-year-old Harriet Rena
Holloway.
She had been arrested after
38-year-old Peter Zetrenne was
stabbed to death last year.
Police said Zetrenne was taken
to Baptist Medical Center South
after he was found with injuries
on Oct. 21, 2017. Police say he and
Holloway had argued at a motel
before the stabbing.

Suspended prosecutor
seeks retirement pay
COLUMBIA — A prosecutor
suspended while he faces corrup
tion charges is pushing to get full
retirement benefits.
The Post and Courier of Charles
ton reported that suspended 5th
Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson has
asked that the state continue retire
ment payments on his $141,000
annual salary until a new prosecu
tor takes office in January.
Those payments would allow
Johnson to complete his second
four-year term and qualify for a
pension worth about $100,000.
The South Carolina Commission
on Prosecution Coordination has
rejected Johnson’s request.
Johnson’s attorney, Lewis
Cromer, says his client is entitled
to the payments because he was
twice elected as chief prosecutor
for Richland and Kershaw coun
ties. Cromer says Johnson is inno
cent until proven guilty.
Prosecutors say Johnson is
accused of spending thousands
of taxpayer dollars on personal
expenses.
2 killed in 2-vehicle
wreck identified
TAYLORS - Officials have
identified two people killed in a
two-car wreck.
The South Carolina Highway
Patrol said the wreck happened
around 9 a.m. Tuesday on a road
about 2 miles south of Greer.
The Greenville County Coro
ner’s Office said the victims were
21-year-old Austin Taylor Buice
and 56-year-old Dawn Taylor Epps,
both of Taylors.
Trooper Joe Hovis said a car
being driven by Buice crossed the
centerline on a curve and struck
Epps’ car.

Woman accused of
taking dog in bear hunt
MARYVILLE — A woman has
been accused of interfering with
a legal bear hunt by catching and
stealing a hunting dog.
News outlets quote a Tennessee
Wildlife Resources Agency state
ment as saying Sandra Lucille
Inman was arrested and charged
with theft, removal of a transmit
ting collar and violation of the
state’s Hunter Protection Act. She’s
accused of taking the dog Nov. 2
during a black bear hunt County.
The agency says wildlife officers
returned the dog to the hunter.
The statement says officers have
received hunting dog theft reports
for years and it’s usually difficult to
get a resolution for the hunter.
The Knoxville News Sentinel
reports Inman was released from
jail Wednesday morning after post
ing $6,000 bond.
Train hits car, killing
driver, passenger
GERMANTOWN — Police say a
train has hit a vehicle in Tennessee
killing both occupants.
Germantown Police said
86-year-old driver Dorothy M. Bell
and her 96-year-old passenger,
Samuel J.W. Bell, were killed from
injuries in Tuesday’s crash. Police
Capt. Mike Fisher told news outlets
that the crash was reported in the
afternoon and diverted traffic in
the Memphis suburb for almost
five hours.

wife, father-in-law
BRENTWOOD — Police say a
man was fatally shot after attack
ing his wife and father-in-law with
a knife.
News outlets quote police as say
ing Jerry Matthews fatally stabbed
his wife, Emma Teeters, during an
altercation and injured his father-
in-law, Terry Teeters.
Police Chief Jeff Hughes said
investigators believe the elder
Teeters shot Matthews after being
stabbed.
Hughes said Matthews was pro
nounced dead at the scene. The
three adults lived at the home
along with Emma Teeters’ three
children and her mother.
Businessman gets 14
years in prison for
insurance fraud
NASHVILLE — A businessman
has been sentenced to 14 years
in federal prison and ordered
to repay millions of dollars in a
health insurance fraud scheme.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says
51-year-old Bart Sidney Posey of
Springfield was sentenced Tues
day and ordered to pay $6.5 million
in restitution.
A prosecutor’s office release
says Posey pleaded guilty in Janu
ary and admitted to denying legiti
mate health insurance claims. It
says he also admitted to selling
insurance not backed by a legiti
mate underwriter and embezzling
millions of dollars in premiums. It
says Posey used the premiums to
buy a motorcycle, a sports car and
football tickets and to pay off a per
sonal mortgage.
The release says there were
more than 17,000 victims of the
scheme nationwide.

John Henry Forrest, 60, of Gainesville
passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at
his residence after a yearlong battle with
GBM brain cancer.
A celebration of life service is scheduled
for Dec. 9, 2018, at the Martha Hope Cabin
from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Mr. Forrest was born July 4, 1958, in
Atlanta, Ga., to James Marcus Forrest and
Emma Millwood Forrest. John’s career
spanned 40 years in the Logistic and Trans
portation industry. He was employed with
Peachstate Trucking Inc. at the time of
his diagnosis. Mr. Forrest was preceded in
death by his parents and his brother, James
Leonard Forrest.
Mr. Forrest is survived by his son, Bran
don Dale Forrest of Gainesville; brother
and sister-in-law, Nelson and Toni Forrest
of Folly Beach, S.C.; sister and brother-in-
law, Darlene and Elliott Shaw of Flowery
Branch; nieces, Taylor Shaw and Rachel
Shaw, both of Flowery Branch; his dearly
beloved dog, Petey.

Andrew Murray Gallup
Nov. 10, 1995-Nov. 17, 2018
On Nov. 17,2018, Andrew Murray Gallup,
23, of Dahlonega went to be with the Lord.
Andy was born on Nov. 10, 1995, in the
Republic of Sierra Leone, West Africa. At
that time the country of Sierra Leone was in
the midst of civil war and Andy was one of
many children left orphaned by sickness and
war. He was adopted into the Gallup family
in January 2000 along with his big brother
Raymond. Andrew’s “thing” as he liked to
put it was academics. He was two semesters
away from his degree in Health Science at
the University of North Georgia. Andy was a
member of Bethlehem Church.
Survivors include his Mom Jenny Gallup,
Monroe; Dad Don Gallup, Midland, Texas;
sister Jessica Brubaker, Crawford; broth
ers Donnie Gallup, Midland, Texas, and
Jonathan Gallup, Hoschton; sister Johanna
Gallup, Pocatello, Idaho; brother Raymond
Gallup, Lake Havasu City, Ark.; sister Lydia
Gallup, Hoschton; brother Michael Gallup,
Frisco, Texas; maternal grandparents Jack
and Mary Reese, Flowery Branch; many
aunts and uncles who loved him very much.
A celebration of Andy’s life will be held at
5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23,2018, in the chapel of
Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.

Dell S. Huey
Died Nov. 20, 2018
Dell S. Huey, 89, died Nov. 20, 2018. A
native of Gainesville, Ga., she moved to
Atlanta as a young woman where she met
the love of her life, Harold Huey. Dell and
Harold were married for 51 years, living
in Decatur and Snellville, until his death in
1998. Dell was a wonderful cook whose reci
pes are still being enjoyed by her family. She
loved to travel and especially enjoyed visit
ing Hawaii, Alaska and Canada in her later
years. Dell was a longtime
member of Zoar United
Methodist Church in Snell
ville. There, she was active
in Zoar’s “Second Milers”
group. For the past six
years, Dell resided at the
Resting Nest Personal Care
Home in Gainesville.
She is survived by her
daughter, Kim (Hal) Gill of Snellville; her
grandson Taylor (Madeline) Gill of Char
lotte, N.C.; her granddaughter, Alyssa Gill of
Snellville; and numerous nieces and neph
ews. The family wishes to express its grati
tude to Dell’s niece, Lisa Dishman, her hus
band Joel Dishman and the special caregiv
ers at the Resting Nest who provided a loving
home for Dell for the past six years.
Visitation for Mrs. Huey will be Friday,
Nov. 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with funeral
services to follow in the Chapel of Little &
Davenport Funeral Home. Private family
burial will take place at Eternal Hills Mem
ory Gardens, Snellville.

Mrs. Hazel Geneva Ward, 80, of Gaines
ville passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 20,2018,
at her residence following an extended
illness.

Hazel was born on March 8, 1938, in
Gainesville, Ga., to the late William Ingram
and Virginia Bessie Glass Ingram. She was
retired from Atlas Cold Storage where she
worked as a book keeper. She is preceded
in death by her parents; husband, Ben Ward;
brothers, Herbert Ingram, Bobby Ingram,
Ferrell Ingram and Kenneth Ingram; sisters,
Doris Purdy and Juanita Peace.
Mrs. Ward is survived by her children,
Donna Henderson, Denise Nix (Jimmy), Dar
lene Garrison; grandchildren, Misty Mize,
Heath Henderson, Jessica Satterfield (Caleb),
Levi Nix (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Austin
Mize, Nathan Henderson, Chevy Henderson,
Madison Nix, Silas Nix, Samuel Nix, Solomon
Nix, Sarah Joy Nix, Carter Satterfield, Kennedy
Satterfield; brothers, Billy Ingram, Douglas
