JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.
— A conservative writer
and associate of Trump
confidant Roger Stone said
Friday that he is in plea
talks with special counsel
Robert Mueller’s team.
Jerome Corsi told The
Associated Press he has
been negotiating a potential
plea but declined
to comment fur
ther. He said on
a YouTube show
earlier this month
that he expected
to be charged
with lying to fed
eral investigators,
though he said at
the time that he
was innocent of
wrongdoing.
Mueller’s team ques
tioned Corsi as part of
an investigation into
Stone’s connections with
WikiLeaks. American
intelligence agencies have
assessed that Russia was
the source of hacked mate
rial released by WikiLeaks
during the 2016 election
that damaged Hillary Clin
ton’s campaign. Mueller’s
office is trying to deter
mine whether Stone and
other associates of Presi
dent Donald Trump had
advance knowledge of
WikiLeaks’ plans.
The confirmation of
plea talks comes as Muel
ler’s team has just received
fresh information from
Trump personally and
as federal prosecutors in
Virginia recently inadver
tently disclosed the exis
tence of sealed charges
against WikiLeaks founder
Julian Assange.
It’s unclear if the charges
against Assange are related
to Mueller’s investigation,
but WikiLeaks was singled
out in an indictment last
summer against a group
of Russian intelligence
officers accused of carry
ing out the wide-ranging
hack of Clinton’s campaign
and other Democratic
organizations.
It’s also not known if
any plea by Corsi signals a
new raft of charges by the
special counsel or just that
investigators are aggres
sively pursuing cases
against people they believe

made false statements to
investigators. Mueller has
brought such cases against
four others, including
former national security
adviser Michael Flynn.
In a brief phone call with
the AP, Corsi did not elabo
rate on details of any plea
deal or say if a court hear
ing had been set.
Corsi, the former Wash
ington bureau chief of the
conspiracy theory
outlet InfoWars,
has said he coop
erated with the
probe for about
two months after
he received a sub
poena in August.
As part of that
cooperation, he
turned over two
computers and a
cell phone and provided
the FBI access to his email
accounts and tweets.
But he said this month
talks with investigators
recently had “blown up.”
“I fully anticipate that
in the next few days, I will
be indicted by Mueller,” he
said.
The spokesman for the
special counsel, Peter
Carr, declined comment on
Friday.
After his YouTube show
appearance, Corsi broke
off an interview with NBC
News and declined any
other media interviews. His
comments Friday were the
first since then.
Stone has denied being
a conduit for WikiLeaks,
which published thousands
of emails stolen from Clin
ton campaign chairman
John Podesta in the weeks
before the election.
Stone, who has said he
is prepared to be indicted,
said earlier this month that
he “had no advanced notice
of the source or content or
the exact timing of the
release of the WikiLeaks
disclosures.”
He told AP in a sepa
rate statement Friday, “It
is clear from his recent
videos and his recent
interviews that my friend
Dr. Corsi has been under
a tremendous amount of
pressure and it is beginning
to affect him profoundly.
He has stated publicly that
he is being asked over and
over to say things he simply
does not believe occurred.”

HOOVER — Police
responding to a fight
inside an Alabama shop
ping mall shot and killed a
man who had brandished
a weapon, authorities said
Friday. Two other people
were injured, including a
12-year-old girl.
The Hoover Police
Department said in a state
ment that two men were
engaged in a “physical
altercation” at the glitzy
Riverchase Galleria in
Hoover late Thursday,
when one of the men pulled
out a handgun and shot the
other man twice.
Two officers who were
providing security at the
mall heard the gunfire
and approached the area.
They spotted a suspect wav
ing a pistol and shot him.
He died at the scene. His
name was not immediately
released, but police said he
was 21 years old and from
Huey town.
The other shooting vic
tim was an 18-year-old
male from Birmingham. He
was taken to a nearby hos
pital in serious condition. A
12-year-old bystander was
also shot and taken to Chil
dren’s Hospital by a Hoover
Fire Department rescue
squad.
Police said the fight hap
pened on the mail’s second
floor concourse area, near
the entrance to the Footac-
tion shoe store. Capt. Greg
Rector said at a news con
ference that investigators
do not know what sparked
the original confrontation
between the men.
A witness, Lexi Joiner,
told Al.com she was shop
ping with her mother when
the gunfire started. Joiner
said she heard six or seven
shots and was ordered,
along with some other shop
pers, into a supply closet for
cover.
“It was terrifying,”
Joiner said.
A woman who described
herself as the mother of the
injured 12-year-old posted
on social media that the girl
was on a Black Friday shop
ping trip with other family
members when the shoot
ing happened, and didn’t
immediately realize that
the pain in her back was
from a bullet.

This image provided by ABC 33/40, shows authorities responding after reports of shots
fired Thursday, Nov. 22, at Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, a Birmingham, Ala., suburb.
“She was hurting a lot,
but very brave and posi
tive as always,” the mother
wrote after seeing the
girl when she arrived at a
hospital.
Hoover police said Fri
day morning that the girl
was in stable condition.
The officer who shot
the gunman was placed on
administrative leave while
the Jefferson County Sher
iff’s Office investigates
the shooting. The officer’s
name was not released. The
officers were not hurt.
Video posted on social
media by shoppers showed
a chaotic scene as shoppers
fled the mall, which closed
for the remainder of Thurs
day night.
The mall in the Birming
ham suburb of Hoover,
reopened at 6 a.m. Friday,
a Riverchase Galleria
mall security officer said.
It bills itself as the largest
enclosed shopping center in
Alabama, with more than
150 stores.
