He admitted in a later interview that he didn’t know quite how to feel about it all. “I’m not sure how to express it,” Marceleno said. “It’s kind of hard to say how I felt in that moment. ” In October, Marceleno saved a man’s life. Plain and simple. “We like to tell teachers and we like to tell students that what you do matters,” Hall County Schools Super intendent Will Schofield said. “I have a hard time even talking about it.” A student in a work-study program at Johnson High who will begin taking some classes at Lanier College and Career Academy next semester, Marceleno also struggled to speak about the incident so impressed upon his memory. It was early in the morning, and Marceleno was making the rounds with mentor Alan Moore to differ ent schools to check on heating and air systems. Norman Reece, 43, and Audrey Dahl, 35, were found dead by Reece’s 18-year-old son, who also lives in the home on the 3500 block of Gaines Mill Road. “Both of the toxicologies came back and both had methamphetamines in it. She had a high count of methamphetamines,” deputy coroner James Bell said. An official cause of death has not been released by the medical examiner. “He had a high count of methamphetamines, but he also had a very high count of fentanyl.... She had counts of fentanyl in hers, but nowhere near as high as what (Reece) had,” Bell said. Fentanyl is an opioid drug considered roughly 100 times stronger than morphine. When authorities were called to the house, Dahl and Reece had “no obvious signs of trauma or foul play,” said Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office in a release. Reece’s 18-year-old son found them both in a bedroom around 6 a.m. “after last having contact with them the previous evening,” Wilbanks said. “He discovered the deceased when he woke up... after noticing that the house had become very cold,” Wilbanks said in an email. He added there were space heaters in the home, which was without electricity, so Hall County Fire Services tested the air quality but did not find toxic carbon monoxide levels. Rep. Collins named top Republican on Judiciary Committee BY MEGAN REED mreed@gainesvilletimes.com U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, R-Gainesville, has been named ranking member of the House Judi ciary Committee, a role that will make him a key player in preventing a possible investigation of President Donald Trump. “The Judiciary Committee’s jurisdiction runs deep and wide, and I’ve been commit ted to advancing the conser vative agenda as a member of the committee since day one,” Collins said in a statement. “It’s been an honor to legislate with my House colleagues and earn their trust. As ranking member of the House Judi ciary Committee, I look forward to the hard battles and noble work before us.” Collins said one priority of Republicans on the committee will be defending Trump against threats of an investigation, a move that the Gainesville Republican said would be an “over reach” but has been alluded to by Democrats. Democrats gained control of the House in the Nov. 6 midterms, forcing Collins to switch ■ Please see COLLINS, 8A Collins INSIDE WEATHER 2A DEATHS 9A 0 40901 06835 Advice 6B Bridge 6B Business 10A Calendar 2A Classified 8B 8 Comics 7B Life 5B Lottery 2A Opinion 6A Our Region 8A Sports 1B TV/puzzles 6B Lake Lanier level: 1,070.33 feet Full pool 1,071.
