OWINGS
NBA SCOREBOARD
■ Continued from 1B
It really began as the 0 Bros Holiday Camp
— a tiny operation stationed at Gainesville
High School — in 2004, one offseason experi
ment for the brothers during Micah’s college
career at Tulane. It eventually grew into
a year-round institution now known as the
Ozone Sports Institute.
“We felt like we had a lot to offer, not just
as ballplayers, but as the full package — as
an athlete from an offseason training per
spective, to on the field, to hopefully help
kids mentally and spiritually with the pres
sures of the game, but also life,” Micah said
of the camp, now in its 14th year.
Their vision branched out into a travel ball
program, too, launching the “Ozone War
riors” back in 2011. The program helps more
developed ballplayers get the exposure they
need for college scholarships, among other
opportunities beyond high school. Owings
said they currently have multiple teams in
the area competing at the national level.
Looking back, Owings now has even more
admiration for the coaches and influential
figures who helped him throughout his base
ball life, especially Carpenter.
“We’re giving back from what we expe
rienced and what we’ve been blessed to be
a part of, the journey,” Micah said. “That’s
the cool part for me, seeing these kids getting
college scholarships now, you know? They’re
winning championships. They are succeed
ing. .. (For) a lot of them, this is an opportu
nity to make something of themselves. That’s
been the rewarding part for me.”
As for his personal future, it’s uncertain if
a return to professional baseball or coaching
in the minors is still in the cards for Owings.
What he does know, however, is that the
future of Ozone Sports is bright.
“My brothers are very, very good at what
they do, and they have a big vision that I
might be able to participate and help with,”
Owings said.
Clippers strong inside in 132-111 win
KYUNG SONG I The Associated Press
Los Angeles Clippers guard Tyrone Wallace, right, goes up to the
basket under pressure as Denver Nuggets forward Torrey Craig
defends him during the first half of Saturday’s game in Los Angeles.
Associated Press
The Denver Nuggets have
hit a few bumps en route to
the Western Conference’s best
record.
Just not like this.
Danilo Gallinari and Tobias
Harris each scored 21 points,
Montrezl Harrell added 20 and
the Los Angeles Clippers beat
Denver 132-111 on Saturday for
the Nuggets’ worst loss of the
season.
The Nuggets (21-10) had not
lost by more than 10 points and
had won four straight.
“That was a tough one,” Nug
gets forward Monte Morris
said. “The Clippers just wanted
it a little bit more.”
That was most obvious in the
paint, where the hard-driving
Clippers outscored the Nuggets
80-50.
“Eighty points is not a num
ber I’m used to seeing on a stat
sheet,” Nuggets coach Michael
Malone said. “That’s just them
beating us off the dribble.
That’s them rebounding every
missed shot. That’s them out
working us and (us) not being
ready to compete at the level
we needed to compete tonight.”
The Clippers shot 57.6 per
cent from the field.
“I thought our tempo set
the tone,” Clippers coach Doc
Rivers said. “Our pace tonight
(was) maybe as good as I’ve
seen. I mean, we never stopped
it. Just continued movement
and pacing. I thought we did it
throughout the game. ”
The Clippers went on a 15-4
run in the middle of the first
quarter, but their cause was
aided when Denver’s lead
ing scorer, Nikola Jokic, was
ejected. He led the Nuggets
with 19 points despite playing
only 20 minutes.
The Clippers led by 11 when
the 7-foot Jokic was ejected in
the third quarter for scream
ing at an official for the second
time. Malone said he wasn’t
sure what Jokic had yelled to
draw the ejection.
“You’d have to ask him,”
Malone said.
Jokic did not make himself
available to reporters after the
game. After losing four consec
utive games, the Clippers have
won two straight.
ROCKETS 108, SPURS 101:
James Harden had 39 points
and 10 assists to lead the Hous
ton Rockets past the San Anto
nio Spurs on Saturday night.
Clint Capela had 21 points
and a season-high 23 rebounds,
and Eric Gordon had 18 points
on 4-of-12 shooting from 3-point
range.
DeMar DeRozan led San
Antonio with 28 points and eight
assists. LaMarcus Aldridge
scored 18 points, and Rudy Gay
added 13.
The Rockets were playing
without point guard Chris Paul,
who suffered a Grade-2 left
hamstring strain on Thursday
night in Miami and is expected
to be out at least two-to-four
weeks. Houston entered Satur
day winless in five games with
out Paul this season.
The Rockets scored 43 points
in the third quarter and car
ried 15-point in the final period.
That followed one of their low
est-scoring first two periods of
the season, including a 13-point
second quarter.
HEAT 94, BUCKS 87: Josh
Richardson scored 16 points,
Dwyane Wade had a pair of big
baskets in the final minutes and
the Miami Heat held Giannis
Antetokounmpo to a season-low
scoring effort on their way to a
win over the Milwaukee Bucks
on Saturday night.
Wade finished with 13 points
for Miami, which extended its
season-high winning streak to
four games. Hassan Whiteside
had 11 points and 13 rebounds,
and Kelly Olynyk and James
Johnson each scored 11 points
for the Heat.
Antetokounmpo was held to
a season-low nine points — his
previous was 12 — on 3 for 12
shooting, though he did have 13
rebounds.
