Police: Two smash-and-grab suspects take four phones from Flowery Branch Sprint store BY NICK WATSON nwatson@gainesvilletimes.com Two burglars damaged a Sprint store dis play case and took four new iPhone 11s Jan. 16 on Spout Springs Road in Flowery Branch, police said. Flowery Branch Police are looking for two suspects in the smash-and-grab burglary. Surveillance video shows the two suspects entering the store and looking around the inventory before grabbing the phones. As they run from the store, part of the display case is dragged along with them. Investigator Robin Kemp did not have many new details on the case. “The taller of the (suspects), who was dressed in white and orange, has a tattoo all around his neck. A witness said he looked like a guy he attended school with at East Hall High School 2010-2012,” Kemp wrote in an email. Couch announces reelection bid for Hall Sheriff BY NICK WATSON nwatson@gainesvilletimes.com Sheriff Gerald Couch formally announced Mon day, Jan. 27, his intention to run again for the head job at the Hall County Sheriffs Office. “I take seriously my oath to serve and protect the residents of this grow ing county, a place I have called home my entire life,” Couch said in a state ment. “I am humbled by the trust placed in me over the last eight years and I remain committed to mak ing the Sheriffs Office even better, and the people of Hall County even safer, in 2020 and beyond.” Couch, who has served as Hall County Sheriff since January 2013, has been in law enforcement for 37 years. He has also “completed more than 3,500 hours of advanced law enforcement train ing and education, including supervi sion and executive management,” according to a news release from Forum Communications. Couch said officer train ing is one area he hopes to continue improving. According to the news release, total training hours for employees increased from 23,000 in 2015 to 37,000 hours in 2019. “First responders choose a career of service before self. They face many chal lenges, difficulties and untold stress ors that thankfully few other people ever have to expe rience,” Couch said in a statement. “We must work with our Commissioners and the State to improve pay and benefits for all first responders.
