LOCAL The Times, Gainesville, Georgia | gainesvilletimes.com Friday, January 31,2020 7A Chairman Hall to run for state Senate District 50 BY MEGAN REED mreed@gainesvilletimes.com Stacy Hall, chairman of the Habersham County Board of Commis sioners, is running for the Georgia Senate to represent District 50, which includes a small part of East Hall County. Hall, a Republi can, is in his second year as chairman of Habersham’s Board of Com missioners and had previ ously announced he would not seek reelection for that position. “Our North Georgia way of life is under attack. While representing District 50, I plan to fight for our conserva tive values and constitutional rights. I will work tirelessly under the Gold Dome to protect our 2nd Amendment constitutional right to keep and bear arms,” Hall said in a statement. “I will not (waver) in my effort to protect the unborn, and I will stand firm for religious liberty. I will work closely with our agricul tural community to ensure that our number one industry not only survives but thrives, and I will seek smart, stra tegically planned industrial growth so that we have plenty of well-paying jobs. ” John Wilkinson currently holds the Senate District 50 seat, but on Wednes day, Jan. 30, Wilkin son announced plans to run for the U.S. House of Representatives. Hall serves on the Fellowship of Chris tian Athletes local advisory board and the Presidential Advisory Board at Tallulah Falls School. He is a member of the National Rifle Asso ciation and Georgia Carry, is active with the Habersham Partnership for Growth, and he and his family are mem bers of Level Grove Baptist Church. He has served as chairman of the Habersham County Hospital Author ity, Chairman of the White County Chamber of Com merce, board member for Habersham United Way, and vice chair for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Hall and his wife Ivy own a real estate development business. Hall was previously the athletic director and a business professor at Truett McConnell University and a sports marketing execu tive. He has taught elemen tary, middle and high school as well as undergraduate and graduate level college classes. Hall said that while he had not originally planned to run for office after leaving his position with Habersham’s Board of Commissioners, he has decided to seek a position at the Capitol with his fam ily’s support. “After overwhelming sup port and encouragement throughout the district as well as much prayer and discussion with my family, it was clear that I needed to pursue this office to protect our North Georgia values in Atlanta,” Hall said. “It is only with the full support of my family that I am running. I want to model for my chil dren the privilege of serving others.” Senate District 50 includes all of Banks, Franklin, Haber sham, Rabun, Stephens, Towns and parts of Hall and Jackson counties. Hall plans to complete his term as com missioner, which ends in December. S. Kris Hall has entered the race for Hall County Sheriff. Hall started his law enforcement career in 1996 following his service in the U.S. Army. A graduate of Forsyth Central High School, Hall holds a criminal justice degree from Columbia Southern University and more than 3,200 hours of training through the Geor gia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. He currently supervises the traffic unit and part of the Gover nor’s Office of High way Safety Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic unit. “Currently, the organizational structure doesn’t lend itself to smart growth and a defined future plan. This needs to be changed with a reor ganization; a streamlined, and functional blueprint to aid in smart spending of taxpayer funds and person nel in place to (ensure) full services are provided to the citizens of Hall County,” Hall wrote in a release announcing his candidacy. Hall has lived in Hall County since 2002. He is married to Samantha and has three daughters. “Having retired from a similar agency after 18 years, Kris is more than familiar with rapid growth and how an agency can manage it. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office should be setting the example for how a large agency should be managed,” Hall said in a statement. K.
