Underwood pre viously served as chairman of the For syth County Republican Party and second vice chair of the 9th Congres sional District Republican Party. He is currently a member of the GOP State Committee. “I am running for U.S. Congress in Georgia’s 9th District because we need a battle-ready Republi can leader who can make decisions and take action day-one on the issues that are in the best interest of our district and our state,” Underwood said in a state ment. “While Washington, DC is embroiled in a hos tile, philosophical fight, Northeast Georgia commu nities care about problems and solutions in real life. I will work relent lessly to clear the path for our citizens to make a living and pur sue happiness.” As a partner at Miles, Hans ford & Tallant in Cumming, U nderwood focuses on representing private property owners in land use, condemna tion and tax appeal cases. He has served on several boards for local organiza tions, including the For syth County Chamber of Commerce, the Bald Ridge Lodge and Rewarding Minds. He is also a mem ber of the Rotary Club of Alpharetta. Underwood and his wife Tiffany have four chil dren. The family attends Mountain Lake Church. One of his daughters has been cancer-free for 15 years, and the experience has made Underwood “passionate about making certain Georgians have access to quality, privately funded healthcare options — and fighting against a single-payer healthcare system,” according to a statement. Underwood also sup ports educational choice, and he and his wife “know that a one-size-fits-all edu cational system does not work for all children, and have worked with pub lic, private, and home schooling options for their children’s needs,” according to his campaign announcement. Underwood attended the University of Tennes see at Chattanooga for his undergraduate degree, then received a law degree and a master’s in business administration from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. His family moved to North Forsyth in 2003. Doug Collins currently holds the 9th District seat but has announced a run for the U.S. Senate. Megan Reed Underwood Attorney Hatchett to run for Ga. Senate District 50 Bo Hatchett, a Habersham County attorney and busi ness owner, is run ning to represent District 50 in the Georgia Senate. Hatchett, a Republican, grew up in Demorest, went to Georgia Tech for a biology degree and then the University of Georgia for his law degree. He is now an attor ney at the firm of Cathey and Strain in Cornelia. “This community raised me on the conservative principles and beliefs that make our nation great,” Hatchett said in a statement. “Our district deserves a home grown Republican who will protect our values in Atlanta. I am pro-life, a proud gun owner and supporter of the 2nd Amendment, and I am an original 2016 primary sup porter of President Don ald Trump.” Hatchett said he wants to “defend our Northeast Georgia values against the rising wave of socialism.” He and his wife, Ash ley, are parents to a two- year-old, Hallie, and are anticipating the birth of their second child, Hazel, in March. John Wilkinson cur rently holds the District 50 seat but has announced he is running for Georgia’s 9th District seat in the U.S. House of Represent atives. District 50 includes all of Banks, Franklin, Habersham, Rabun, Ste phens and Towns and por tions of Hall and Jackson counties. Megan Reed Hatchett Boggus tunning for 9th District seat in US House Michael Boggus of Commerce is run ning for Georgia’s 9th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Boggus, a Repub lican, identifies as a “devout constitu tionalist,” accord ing to his website. He has worked as a crane operator. “He is a firm believer in prioritizing patriotism over political partisanship and corporate funding, and anticipates bringing that revitalized message of the American people back into Congress,” according to his campaign announcement. He hopes to reduce taxation on the middle class, address pharma ceutical com panies’ control over the econ omy, encourage entrepreneur- ship and defend Second Amend ment rights, according to his announcement. “Michael brings a refreshing, popu list message to politics, in the hopes of reminding the government that its responsibility is to protect and defend the rights of Americans, rather than restrict them,” according to his announcement. In November 2019, he traveled to Washing ton D.C. to deliver a list of grievances to several senators. “Now, with political experience, blue-collar work ethic, and populist appeal under his belt, Michael looks forward to the future opportunity that he has in serving the American people in Con gress,” his announcement reads. “Through the con tinued support of patriotic, middle class Americans, he can serve as a reck oning force in a political sphere previously domi nated by corporate inter ests and partisan pawns, and make ‘We the People’ the predominant slogan of the American govern ment, once again.” Boggus and his wife Maggie have two daugh ters, Alyssa and Madi son. Boggus grew up in Gainesville. Megan Reed Boggus Attorney Hise running for Ga. Senate District 50 Tricia Hise, a Habersham County attorney, is run ning to represent District 50 in the Georgia Senate. Hise, a Repub lican, serves on the board of the Habersham Cham ber of Commerce and chairs the Govern mental Affairs Commit tee. She has held state board positions on the Georgia State Property Commission and the Geor gia Building Authority. She formerly served as assistant district attorney for the Mountain Judicial Circuit and is a POST- certified law enforcement officer. She also chairs Women for Trump in Habersham. “I am a Christian con servative, dedicated to the principles of the Consti tution, including our guaranteed right to bear arms under the 2nd Amendment. I believe in protect ing all life and will work tirelessly to defend our Consti tution, to protect the unborn, to pro mote businesses, including our number one business — agriculture,” Hise said in a statement. I thank my friend and statesman Sen. John Wilkinson for his tire less work for our district and I wish him the best in his run for Congress. I am known as the ‘Bulldog in the Courtroom’ and I look forward to serving you as your Bulldog in the Senate as I earn your vote.” Hise has donated pro bono legal services to vic tims in need through the Circle of Hope, F.A.I.T.H. and Powerhouse for Kids. She is a past president of the Mountain Judicial Cir cuit Bar Association. Hise serves as attorney coach for the student members of the Habersham Central Mock Trial Team. She is married to Nathan Dilday, an agri cultural lender, and they live in Cornelia with their son Max. Hise is a partner in the law firm Hotard & Hise, based in Clarkes- ville, and she and her family attend First Baptist Church of Cornelia.
