The vehicle was set on fire after 1 a.m. Tuesday, June 2. Five suspects were arrested hours later. Those charged were Deveccho Waller, 21, Jesse Smallwood, 21, Dashun Martin, 23, and Judah Bailey, 20, all of Gainesville, and Bruce Thompson, 22, of Oakwood. According to the Hall County Sheriffs Office jail database, the five men are also facing charges of terroristic threats and acts, third-degree arson, interfer ence with government property and criminal trespass. According to the statement of charge on the third-degree arson, the case involved a grassy area of Henry Ward Way, and the men allegedly “light ing several smoke bombs and fire works in the grass, causing a fire to form.” No attorney information for the five men was available from Mag istrate Court officials Wednesday, June 3. gy n - - > w / © 1 p b Waller Smallwood Martin Bailey Thompson Police: Man accused of striking officer in head with gold crucifix BY NICK WATSON nwatson @gainesvilletimes.com A Gainesville man was accused of striking a Gaines ville Police officer on her head with a gold crucifix, police said. Sebastian Marcos- Bautista, 31, was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and obstruction. There is also an immigration hold listed on the Hall County Sheriff’s Office jail database. Officers were called out around 10:45 a.m. Monday, June 1, to Summit Street regarding an abnormal behavior call, where wit nesses said Marcos-Bautista was “carrying a stick or paddle into businesses,” Cpl. Jessica Van wrote in an email. When they got to the scene, officers saw Marcos- Bautista in a tussle with other individuals and tried to detain him. “At this point, he had his fist wrapped with a gold cruci fix, with the sharp end of the cruci fix exposed,” Van wrote in an email. Van said Marcos- Bautista struck an officer on the head, resulting in a lacera tion and bleeding. The officer received medical treatment and is back on duty.
