We’re going to have this with us for a while.” Schofield said he was hopeful schools would be ready to reopen in August, but “it’s too early to say.” Assistant superintendent Kevin Bales said the school district has sent out surveys to parents of students as well as school faculty asking their opinions on reopen ing, and “the overwhelming majority” are in favor of it. Still, Schofield said there are many factors to con sider before making a deci sion, including the medical frailty of some Hall County students and their families. The system is consider ing everything from return ing to traditional, in-person learning, to a hybrid reopen ing where only a portion of students will attend in-per- son classes depending on the day, to continuing at-home learning to start the next school year. “It’s just too early to say,” Schofield said. “We’re not sitting here saying ‘We will be back, brick and mortar, traditional, August 5.’ We’re saying that’s our goal. ” Buford school system announces students will return to classroom BY NATHAN BERG nberg@gainesvilletimes.com Buford City Schools is planning to return to in-person instruction on Aug. 5, as origi nally scheduled, according to an announce ment from BCS superintendent Robert Downs. The announcement was made dur ing a BCS board of education meeting on Monday. Specific plans for returning to school and precautionary changes that will need to be made have not been finalized, and more information will be sent out as it is confirmed. “We know our families and students are ready to come back as soon as our doors can safely open again,” Downs said. “And we look forward to welcoming them back on August 5.” DIXON ■ Continued from 1A shots of stories posted on social media.
