2B Weekend Edition - June 20-21,2020 The Times, Gainesville, Georgia | gainesvilletimes.com Obituaries Bernard E. “Gene” Roberts, Jr. Died June 16, 2020 Gene Roberts, 86, passed away on June 16th, after a battle with Alzheimer’s. A graveside service will be held at 11 o’clock, on Monday, June 22, in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Paul Dziadul officiating. Gene was born in Wadley, Georgia to the late Mary Speir Roberts and Bernard Eugene Roberts, Sr. He attended school there, graduating from Wadley High School. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Georgia Southern College. Gene loved music and had a wonderful voice. He joined the Air Force after graduation and served for five years during the Korean War era. He returned to Macon and taught high school. While teaching, Gene met his wife Lyra and they married in 1959. They moved to Atlanta when he accepted a job with the Federal Government. Gene and Lyra were married for over 60 years and raised two sons, Judge B.E. Roberts, III, and Harold Godfrey Roberts. Gene retired from the government after 40 years of service. He was also employed by Rich’s, now Macy’s, in Atlanta where he worked in the Men’s Department. Gene loved clothes and was sought out by famous customers to help with their wardrobes. He lived at his home in Hoschton, Georgia outside Gainesville, until a month and a half before his death. He loved flowers and gardening and spent many hours happily maintaining his yard (and cursing weeds). Gene was preceded in death by his four half sisters, Elizabeth, Florence, Joyce and Helen. He is survived by his wife, Lyra Temple Roberts, his sons Gene (Cathi) and Hank (Lynda) and two beloved grandchildren, Eric Eugene Roberts and Lyra Caitlin Roberts. Jacquelyn Westbrook Died June 15, 2020 Jacquelyn Westbrook, 91, of Gainesville passed away Monday, June 15, 2020 following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Born on October 19, 1928 in Miami, FL, she was the daughter of the late George and Ida Otelia Owens Brogdon, She was a graduate of the University of Miami, a high school counselor with the Miami Dade County Schools, a member of the Pioneers of Dade County and Col William Candler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Westbrook was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church of Miami, FL In addition to her parents, Mrs. Westbrook is preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Westbrook and longtime companion, Arnold Tucker of Miami, FL. Mrs. Westbrook is survived by her daughter, Patricia Westbrook of Gainesville; granddaughter, April Seymour of Gainesville; great grandsons, Blake Seymour, and Kyle Seymour both of Gainesville; family friend, Chip Healan of Gainesville and several cousins. Send online condolences to www.memorialpark funeralhomes.com MEMORIAL PARK Funeral Homes & Cemeteries Mildred Hammond Brackett Died June 5, 2020 Millie Brackett, aged 91, passed away at Willow Brook Court of Lanier Village Estates on June 5, 2020. She was preceded in death by her father (Merle Hammond), mother (Alice Hammond), brother (Donovan Hammond) and sister (Edith Hammond Humphrey Mielke). She is survived by her loving husband Ted, son William (Martha), niece and nephews Julie Humphrey Vega, Mark Humphrey and Jeff Hammond, and by several cousins. Millie was born in Akron, Ohio on August 9th, 1928, graduated from Kenmore High School with honors, and attended the University of Akron, graduating in 1950 with a BS in Education (Primary Grades). She played clarinet in band and orchestra, sang in the chorus and acted in drama club productions. While at Akron U, she met her future husband Ted, in June, 1947, beginning a 73-year relationship. They were married on August 4th, 1950. Millie taught school in Wadsworth and Akron, Ohio prior to the birth of son Bill. She was very active in her church, beginning with the Methodist Youth Fellowship and continuing in the United Methodist Women, held many offices in her church, including lay leader, and chaired many committees. Millie followed her husband wherever his job took them, Akron, Minneapolis, Columbus, and Roswell, Georgia, retiring to Gainesville, Georgia. Millie was a Cub Scout den mother, a 75-year member of the Ohio Eastern Star, Triangle Chapter 592, and a member and state officer of the Ohio Federated Women’s Clubs. Millie and Ted moved to Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, Georgia in June, 2001 and became active members of that new community. Vision problems slowed her, but she became an officer in the Greater Hall County Chapter for the Visually Impaired. Millie’s remains were cremated at the Hillside Chapel of Gainesville. Interment and celebration of life services are on hold, pending the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. Millie loved everyone and was a compassionate, caring friend, always with a radiant smile. Robin Machelle Autry Died June 17, 2020 Robin Machelle Autry, age 56 of Clermont, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. Mrs. Autry was born on December 15, 1963, in Hall County, to the late Preston Dover and Deborah Anderson Gilleland. Robin proudly went to Riverbend Elementary and graduated from North Hall High School. In her younger years, she liked to play basketball and was an aspiring model. She was a member of Skitts Mountain Baptist Church in Clermont, Georgia. In addition to her parents, Robin was preceded in death by her sister, Aline Castleberry. Robin was a loving wife, mother, friend, and “Mimi.” She worked at a couple of nursing homes around the area, at NOK, and also worked on their family farm. Robin loved to watch and listen to birds outside their house and was a proud fan of country music. She loved to go on trips and could make a great chicken pot pie. Robin was loved by countless friends, family, and caregivers. A special thanks to Visiting Angels in Cleveland, Georgia and Pruitt Health Hospice in Gainesville, Georgia. Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Herman Autry, Clermont; daughters and sons-in-law, Samantha and Codye Satterwhite, Clermont, and Tracey and Chris Munyon, Cleveland; grandson, Oliver Satterwhite; soon-to-be granddaughter, Amelia Wren Satterwhite; sister Sherry Hastings; brother, Kevin Dover. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Skitts Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Kyle Savage will officiate.
