Midweek Edition - September 9-10, 2020 The Times, Gainesville, Georgia | gainesvilletimes.com Obituaries Hazel Stover Anderson Died September 4, 2020 Mrs. Hazel Stover Anderson, age 74, of Lula, Georgia went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus on Friday, September 4, 2020. Mrs. Anderson was born on September 30, 1945 in Suches, Georgia in Union County to the late Oscar and Nora Stover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Inez Towe; brothers, Kenneth E. Stover, William J Stover, MacArthur Stover, Lee Ervin Stover and Richard Stover. Mrs. Anderson attended New Haven Congregational Holiness Church. She graduated from Woody Gap School in 1963, where she was chosen as “Miss W.G.H.S”, president of her class and “Future Teachers of America”, as well as “Friendliest”. She worked for the Hall County Clerk of Court and retired with over 32 years of faithful service. She loved to hunt and fish and was a wonderful cook. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and loved by many people. Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years whom she first met at age 15 and later married at age 21 , Gary F. Anderson, of Lula; son and daughter-in- law, Phillip and Mary Ann Anderson, of Lula; daughter and son-in- law, Tammy and John Crawford, of Lula; grandson, Andrew Crawford, of Lula; sisters and brother-in-law’s, Irene and Edward Towe, of Gainesville, Olene and Lewis Dyer of Blairsville, Ruth and Dale Burke of Lula. She had numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses that cared for her at Northeast Georgia Medical Center for the past two years and Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 6, 2020 at the New Haven Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Wayne Hicks and Rev. Bobby Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park cemetery. Johnny was a graduate of Johnson High School and served in the United States Navy. He was a self-employed contractor and specialized in custom cabinets. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Oakwood. Johnny’s motto was there are only 2 ways to do things... His Way and The Wrong Way! He will be remembered as the best chef and grill master of the family. He had the best laugh. He could be tough on us at times because he expected us to do right and live right. He was the best husband, Dad, Papa, brother, uncle & friend. Johnny was preceded in death by his Parents, Harold S. and Doris Chamblee Edwards and Father-in-Law, Wiley Sanders. Those wishing to send online condolences to the family may do so at littledavenport.com Kunigunde “Connie” Bayer Cottrell Died September 6, 2020 Kunigunde “Connie” Bayer Cottrell, 89, of Gainesville, Georgia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 6, 2020. She passed peacefully surrounded by her devoted family. Connie was born June 11, 1931, in Vohburg, Germany, to Dr. Michael and Maria Bayer. After she married the love of her life Don Cottrell, an American soldier, she moved to the United States to start a family. Becoming an American citizen was one of her proudest achievements. Don and Connie moved to Gainesville, Georgia in 1975 to establish their business Cottrell Inc., a car-carrier manufacturer. Connie worked alongside Don in the business for many years. She loved the Lord and had a heart for missionary service. She helped establish churches in America as well as Russia, Armenia, Honduras, and Mexico. Connie enjoyed a full and vibrant life! She traveled the world with her family, she doted on her horses, tended to her flowers and garden, swam the lake and water skied like a champion. Most importantly she loved, supported, and encouraged her family and all who were blessed to know her. Most precious to Connie was her family. She is survived by her son Mike Cottrell (Lynn) of Dahlonega; daughters Christine Cottrell of Gainesville, Terry Leming (Derrick) of Lawrenceville, Kathy Moore (Chuck) of Savannah; and brother Johann Bayer (Monique) of Belgium. Connie is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great- great grandchild, her dear friend and caregiver Jennifer Ewing, and her devoted furry companion Karlie. She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Don Cottrell and daughter Tricia Claytor, both of Gainesville; parents Dr. Michael and Maria Bayer of Bavaria, Germany; brothers Gustav Bayer, Siegfried Bayer, and Manfred Bayer of Bavaria, Germany. A private graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. William Jess Murphy, Jr. Died September 5, 2020 William Jess (Billy) Murphy, Jr., age 72, of Gainesville, passed away on September 5, 2020, following a period of declining health and complications from COVID-19. The son of the late Mary and Jess Murphy, Billy spent his early childhood years in Talmo, Georgia, before moving to Gainesville. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1966 and attended Andrew College and Georgia Southwestern. He served and was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1971. He is survived by daughter and son-in- law, Jessica and Jeff Butler; son, Bill Murphy; and granddaughter, Mae Butler. He is also survived by Jessica and Bill’s mother, Muriel Murphy, his wife of 45 years. Surviving siblings are Jean Carmichael, Barbara Reder, and Jeff Murphy. Billy spent most of his career in the real estate business. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He coached little league baseball through Gainesville Parks and Recreation. The dogs in his life, Billy Blake, BoBo, Prissey, and Sadie, were very special to him. For everyone’s health and safety, the family will not be holding a service at this time.
