Hall subdivision gets initial approval An upscale 15-home subdivision overlook ing Lake Lanier in North Hall was recom mended for approval Monday, Sept. 21, by the Hall County Planning Commission. Murrayville-based Sosewood Property Group LLC’s proposed project now moves to the Hall County Board of Commissioners for final action at a public hearing set for Oct. 8. The county commission has final say. The 54-acre development would be off Shirley Road, near Crooked Creek Road and about a mile off Mount Vernon Road. The possibly gated subdivision would have two private driveway entrances, with the driveways shared by the 15 lots, which would average 3.6 acres in size, according to a Hall County planning staff report on the proposal. A mandatory homeowner’s association would be set up in the neighborhood, which would own and maintain the driveways. Sosewood is seeking a rezoning for the now undeveloped, heavily wooded property from residential-agricultural and vacation cottage to planned residential development. Bradley Dunckel of Gainesville engineer ing firm Rochester & Associates, who spoke to the planning board about the project, said afterward he didn’t have a price range for the homes, but they could be priced at $500,000 or higher. “The intent is to subdivide (the lots) for high-end residential homes,” according to a project narrative that’s part of the Hall County planning staff report. “It is a beauti ful parcel... with an abundance of mature hardwoods.” County planning staff also is recommend ing approval of the project. Land issue forces delay in S. Hall residential proposal A nearly 400-unit proposed housing devel opment off Spout Springs Road in South Hall has run into a snag over land issues with the Georgia Department of Transportation, Hall County Planning Commission Chairman Chris Braswell said Monday, Sept. 21. “It’s taking a portion of their land and they’re having to do some redrawing of their layout, I believe,” Braswell said. The commission approved Winder-based Ridgeline Land Planning Inc.’s request to post pone the issue to the board’s Oct. 5 meeting. Braswell didn’t elaborate on the issues, but Hall County is planning a second phase of widening Spout Springs Road — a stretch that would run between Union Circle and the Gwinnett County line, or by the proposed development. The 40-acre development planned for 7285 Spout Springs Road would consist of 274 apartments and 124 townhomes. Just south of the proposed project is a rapidly developing retail area in Braselton, with Spout Springs Road crossing Friendship Road/Ga. 347 and continuing toward Gwinnett County. Jeff Gill House fire kills 2 people, injures 1 in White County Two women were killed and one man was injured in a house fire in White County Sunday, Sept. 20. The fire, which has been determined to be accidental, took place at 125 Autumnwood Way in Cleveland about 2:30 a.m., according to a Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Com missioner’s office press release. Coroner Ricky Bar rett said Lisa Dodson, 53, and Hazel Dodson, 88, were killed. A neighbor called in the fire about 2:49 a.m. Upon arrival, state investigators discov ered the bodies of the women and the injured man, the release states. The bodies were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsy and identification, and the injured man was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, according to the state office. All three people were believed to be residents of the home. State investigators are helping the White County Fire Department, White County Sheriff’s Office and the White County Coroner’s Office in the case.
