Question.—We are forming a club of
farmers with a view to manufacturing
our guanos instead of haying from the
dealers. Please give us all information
I yon can abont (h various materials
used in the manu -ctcrc, where we ean
| bny the same, what they are worth and
' how to mix.
Answer.—ln reply to your inquiry as
to the price of fertilizer materials, etc ,
will recommend that yon refer to brok
ers in these goods. Kven the largest
fertilizer companies find it to their ad
vantage to bny from the brokers, who
make it their bnainess to keep con
stantly informed by wire of all the vari
ations of prioes of the varions materials
used in the manufacture of commercial
fertilizers. I recommend that you
write A. A. Smith, Temple Court, At
lanta, Ga., H M. Tucker & Co., Charles-
ton, 8. C., and 3. M Lang & Co., Sa-
Tanaah, Ga. My latest inquiries show
that acid phosphate can be bought in
Charleston, 8. C., at $6.00 per ton (2,000
pounds) in large lots, guaranteed Üby
per cent of available phosphoric acid.
Dry blood is worth SI.BO per unit of
ammonia, delivered in Atlanta. In
other words, if it shows It per cent of
ammonia, it is worth S2B f , per ton,
delivered in Atlanta. Ta .tage is worth
$2 per unit of ammonia, i.. Atlantia, and
10 cents per unit of bone phosphate.
Murate of potash containing 60 per cent
of potash is worth SI.BO per 100 pounds.
Kainit is worth $0.50 per ton, and it is
abont 12 per cent potash. Both the lat
ter prices are at Charleston ex vessel.
Mr. A. A. Smith is a reliable broker,
and can sometimes even sell yon cheaper
than you can buy in Charleston, freight
added. Freight to Atlanta from Charles
ton on most fertilizer materials is $2.57
per ton.
In buying for home mixture, I would
advise that you stipulate the acid phos
phate be dry and screened free from
lumps. Also, the kainit yon bay be
fresh. Old kainit often turns into hard
lumps.
I would advise against the purchase
of tankage unless it be fine ground, ae
it would be impossible to pulverise the
ordinary sort without special machinery.
By following out the directions, put
ting your materials down in layers, one
upon the other in preper proportions,
then cutting down with isoesaad apadee
and passing through a screen and then
mixing thoroughly again, you ought
aot to have much trouble in making
up a good fertiliser.
In case you buy and need further in
formation, will be glad to supply any I
can.—Chemical Deisu-tnorent.
Growing Irigli Potatoes.
Question.— Can two Rood crops o{
Irish potatoes be grown in a year? If
so, how can It be done enocesafalky?
Answer.— Take good, sound early po
tatoes, ent into single eyes and plant a*
early as the ground can be walked in
February or early in March. With or
dinarily favorable weather, the new
crop of tubers will ripen in eight or ten
weeks. As soon as the potatoes are
ripe, dig them and allow them to dry a
day or two in the shade, then out to a
single eye as before. Place the jdeees
in pans or boxes containing dry land.
Tins takes np the moisture which might
check the growth, or destroy the sets.
Allow them to remain in the sand for,
say 10 or 12 days, or until eyes begin
to start, when they are ready to plant as
before. I wonld advise the second
planting to be covered or mulched with
straw, leaves or pine needles not lees
than 6 mi nes deep. The mulching
should be done after a good season if
possible.
1 have in the above manner grown
very successfully two crops of potatoes
yearly. In fact, I regard the second
crop the more valuable.—State Agri
cultural Department.

Consumption
Do not think for * single
moment that consumption will
ever strike you a sudden blow.
It does not come that way.
It creeps its way along.
First, you think it is a little

then the fever and the night

The suddenness comes when
you have a hemorrhage.

Ayer’s Sarsaparilla; I will guarantee that
you will receive more benefit by using one
or two bottles of Ayer’s than you would

other kind.’ When they take it I never

Ayer’s Sarsaparilla curss all diseases that have their origin in impure blood: sores, ulcers,
boils, eruptions, pimples, eczema, tetter, scrofula, etc. It cures cheaply, it cures quickly, and it
cures to stay. That’s why it’s best.

“ I consider Ayer's Sarsaparilla the best blood purifier on the market." Dr. GRISE & CO., West Gardner, Mass.
“ During fifteen years of experience with Ayer's Sarsaparilla, I have yet to learn of a single case wherein it failed to cure if
used according to directions." F. O. COLLINS, Druggist, Paris, Mo.
“I believe Ayer's Sarsaparilla contains more medicinal value than any other similar compound.”

No merchant can be successful

The fact is noted that A. T. Stew

time, left a fortune of $200,000.-
000 all made in trade, and he was
a persistent advertiser in the news
papers. Nor did he limit his ad
vertising to those portions of the
year when everybody buys. He
| did more advertising in dull times
I than in flush times. He would
rush into print after the holidays
for the purpose of selling and
turning into cash the left over
stock. He would havo no dead
stock, he had no room for it. He
bought to sell, not to store away.
He would reduce prices on goods

Parsnip Complexion.
It does not require an expert to detect
the suffierer from kidney trouble. The
hollow checks, the sunken eyes, the dark
puffy circles under the eyes, the sallow
parsnip-colored complexion indicates it.
A physician would ask if you had rheu
matism, a dull pain or ache in the back or
over the hips, stomach trouble, desire to
urniate often, or a burning or scalding In
passing it; if after passing there is an un
satisfied feeling as if it must be at once
repeated,or if the urine has a brick dust
deposit or strong odor.
When these symptons are present, no
time should be lost in removing the cause.
Delay may lead to gravel, cattarh of the
bladder, inflammation, causing stoppage,
and sometimes requiring the drawing of
the urine with instrumehts, or may rnn
into Bright’s Disease, the most dangerous
stage oi kidney trouble.
Dr. Kilmer’s, Swamp-Root the great
discovery of the eminent kidney and blad
der specialist, is a positive remedy for
such disease. Its reputation is world-wide
and it is so easy to get at any drug store
that no one need suffer any length ot time
