Burning the Gas at End
The old fashioned man v.i.o used
to burn candles to keep from using
up more than one gallon of kerosene
a week thinks he is doing pretty well
in his old age if he uses only two
gallons of gasoline an hour. —Con-
yers Time.
People Should Awake
The Columbus Enquirer. Sun
doesn't believe in “passing the
boric,” so to speak. It feels that if
the American peoplq were more
alert and interested in selecting
statesmen to Washington instead of
selfish politicians there wouldn’t be
so much dirty linen to be exposed
there. —Madison Madisonian.
Auto Tag* at Home
The Dalton Citizen says it ought
to be so a per on who must buy an :
ant-omobsk- tag could go to the court
house amd get it. And so say we. The
red tape now required is absolutely
inexcu.-able. We suggest that some
aspiring legislator pass a law requir- |
ing tags to be sold by the ordinaries
or sheriffs of the different counties,
and allow them a reasonable fee for
their services.—Walton Triburne.
"Happiness in a Hick Town
A hick town is a place where they

hear the drummer’s new stories. —

And, whether you believe it or
wot, this same hick town man is
about as happy an individual as you

the most part, contented with his lot,
and contentment counts for a great
deal in this life.—-Columbus En

DISTINGUISHED VISITORS
Athens educational institutions
have as their guests today and to
morrow members of the general as
sembly who are here on the annual
inspection tour of the University,
State College of Agriculture and the
State Normal School. These repres
entatives of the people will inspect
every depratment of the various in
stitutions and make such reports of
the needs and improvements to the
Legislature which in their opinion
shumild be given attention by the law
making body of the state.
Higher education in Georgia has
suffered for many years on account
the lack of funds with which to
■carry on the work of giving to the
young men and young women of the
state the advantages they deserved
amd Which were due to them by the
state. It is believed that there has
beep a general awakening through
out Georgia to the importance of
providing liberally for higher edu
cation and that when the legislature
meets next month, the members will
see to it that sufficient appropria
tions are , made to give to the boys
and girls of Georgia every' advan
tage and opportunity that is given
by other states.
The University of Georgia, the
Mother educational institution, has
been hampered and stinted for years
and its usefulness greatly impaired
by the lack of sufficient funds to
carry on the work which is expected
•of it from the young men and young
women of Georgia. Such a condition
is to be deplored but unless a more
liberal policy is shown by those in
authority in the distribution of ap
propriations the condition cannot be
improved.
Georgia should support the higher
educational institutions bountifully
und provide every dollar needed to
make the university the equal of any
in the United States. The wealth and
income of the state will warrant it.
We believe that a general awaken
ing and revival of interest is upon
us and the dawning of a new era
for higher education is near at hand.
It should be so—it is for our repres
entatives in the general asemMy to
make possible. Wc do r.ot believe
that they will fail us in this critical’
mwment —Athens Banner-Herald.

COMBINING AGAINST Me.
The Republicans are astonished
j that William G. MeAdoo is gaining
Iso many delegates.
For instance, Texas, Saturday.
The opposition has manifested a
great deal of nervousness ever since
MeAdoo showed such strength in the
West among the Progressive Demo-
I trots and Republicans alike, regard-
I less cf party lines.
His opponents thought they had
Mr. MeAdoo checked because one of
the oil operators had engaged him
to be his attorney. These people did
not distinguish between an attorney
and the principal, but it seems there
are plenty of Democratic voters in
the primaries who do.
One of the journals after the
Georgia primary stated that the ov
| crwhelmng victiory of MeAdoo must
have meant that the people “ciidn t
care a whoop about the oil scandal.
The people care a great deal about
the oil scandal, but they seem to
have recognized the difference be
tween Doheny and MeAdoo. His
manager says that more than 300
delegates pledged or who are openly
favorable to Mr. MeAdoo have been
elected.
Some time ago the Republican
j leaders posed as being jubilant over
! the prominence of Mr. MeAdoo in
tha Democratic party. They pretend
ed that they hoped he would be nom
inated, and all that kind of thing,
i because he would probably be the
easiest man to beat.
However, they have taken anoth
er tack and are making a vicious
campaign against him, even daring
the Democrats to nominate M:Adoo.
Now what do you think of that?
His opponents are showing a great
deal of temper which is not doing
their cause any ‘good. It seems the
Democrats who favor other candi
dates for President are combining
pgainst Mr. MeAdoo. In spite, how
ever, of oppbsition in the Republi
can and defection in Democratic
ranks, it appears that the progressive
forces who are backing Mr. MeAdoo
are putting their candidate way in
the lead. He is marching up and
down the Pacific coast absolutely
without formidable opposition and at
last accounts he was sweeping the
Solid South.—Savannah Press.
Uncle John’s Recipe
This reducing craze is taking the
country. Little grils that look like
a pipe stem are out walking and re
fusing to satisfy their appetites in
order that they may reduce. If some
of them would eat more corn bread
and beans and buttermilk and add
some flesh instead of trying to get
rid of some flesh, they would look
better, and we believe, would feel
better. But if reduce they must, try
scouring the kitchen, helping thl
old mother in the cook room, sweep
ing the yards, washing and ironing.
That will help some.—-Commerce

The Money You Pav For Service
Comes Back to Georgia .
/■■THAT the Telephone Company is a larger“spender
/SI than a collector is a fact known to very few.
The Ball System invests in plant and spends
for operating expenses, such as wages and taxes,
apd for snppiies purchased in ’Georgia during one year,
as much money as it collects from the public for telephone
serviej.
The. millions of do-liars we poured into Oeorvia last
year, no doubt, contributed to the commercial progress
and prosperity of the State, while a large part of the
mcn-y w" collected for service found its way back to
local ccminrnrritißs where the telephone workers of Georgia
are home lighter* and citizens.
The money you pay fs for service, the vetue of which
it is difficult tO' estimate. Tts efficiency and continued
extension is doe not onTv to the loyalty of faithful workers
and the confidence of investors, but in n large measure
to your cord, a I inner-st and co-operation.

SAGE TEA DANDY
TO DARKEN HAIR
It's Grandmother's Recipe to
Bring Back Color and
Lustre to Hale
You can turn gray, faded hair beau
tifully dark and lustrous almost over
night if you’ll get a bottle of “Wyeth’s
Sage and Sulphur Compound” at any
drug store. Millions of bottles of this
old famous Sage Tea Recipe, improved
by the addition of other ingredients,
are sold annually, say well-known drug
gists here, because it darkens the hair
so naturally and evenly that no one can
tell it has been applied.
Those whose hair is turning gray or
becoming faded have a surprise await-,
ing them, because after one or two ap
plications the gray hair vanishes and
your locks become luxuriantly dark and
beautiful.
This is the age of youth. Gfay
haired, unattractive folks aren’t wanted
around, so get busy with Wyeth’s Sage
and Sulphur Compound to-night and
you’ll be delighted with your dark,
handsome hair and your youthful ap
pearance within a few days.
If Kidneys Act
Bad Take Salts
Says Backache Often Means You
Have Hot Been Drinking
Enough Water
When you wake up with backache and
dull misery in the kidney region it may
mean you have been eating foods which
create acids, says a well-known author
ity. An excess of such acids overworks
the kidneys in their effort to filter it
from the blood and they become sort of
paralyzed and loggy. When your kid
neys get sluggish and clog you must
relieve them, litje you relieve your
bowels, removing all the body’s urinous
waste, else you have backache, sick
headache, dizzy spells; your stomach
sours, tongue is coated and when the
weather is bad you have rheumatic
twinges. The urine is cloudy', full of
sediment, channels often get sore, water
scalds and yon are obliged to seek relief
two or three times during the night.
Either consult a good, reliable physi
cian at once or get from your pharma
cist about four ounces'of Jad Salts:
take a tablespoonful in a glass of water
before breakfast for a few days and
your kidneys may then act fine. This
famous salts is made from the acid of
grapes and lemon juice, combined with
lithia, and has been used for years to
help clean and stimulate sluggish kid
neys, also to neutralize acids in the
system, so they no longer irritate, thus
often relieving bladder weakness.
Jad Salts is inexpensive, can not in
jure and makes a delightful, efferves
cent lithia-water drink. Drink lots of
soft water. By all means have your
physician examine your kidneys at ieast
twice a year.
