‘We, the commitiee appointed ap

:tErml Superior Conrt, 1908, beg to
submit the following report: ‘
-We have examined the books of
County Commissioners, County
Sehool’ Commissioner, Ordinary,
Clerk of Superior Court and Tax
| Collector, #ud find them neatly and
corvgely kepr.
[LVe find.a batance in the Schoot
N e
Th%i:sh_eri(f failed to produce any
books at all. We find that the
.l:oumy has provided the following
books for the use of the sheriff:
Shenift’s Kxecutive Docke:,
" Cost Record,
: ” Bond »
_ These books are not used. We
'recommend that the sheriff keep
these records in future as they are
very essential und formm a part of
the legal records of the county.
We have examined the books of
the County Treasurer and find some
irregularites. We find that the
books show a deficieacy of 3215.4%
July Ist from amount of money ac
tually on hand, we therefore recom-§
mend that the County Commission
ers purchase a Treasurer’s cash
book at once and some legal steps
be taken to recozcile these irregu:
larities, as in the present shape 1t is
very embarassing to the committee
and also to the present encumbent,
We have examined the Tax Re
cewver’s books and find that in a
great number of cases that improv
ed lands are returned at $1 00 to
$2.25 per acre, Inseveral instances
these lands contan well improved
homes and farms. Also find that
in some cases personal property
was returned below its value,
We recommend that the Grand
Jury take some legal steps to rectify
these matters, therehy equalizing
the taxes that the burden may fall
equally on all concerned.
We have examined the books of
the officzrs of the County Court and
find that the Court has been run
ning 20 months und has earned
$3286.30 and paid cut for cost
$2693 50, leaving a balance of
$592.80 to the credit of said court,
this amount being in notes bearing
eigiat per cent interest,

TAFT ELECTED
The election is over and the Re
publicans are the victors as usual,
The people have said by their votes
that they are afraid to trust Mr.
Bryant and we hope he is now satis
fied, Of course the South went
Democratic, but think of the Re
publicans carrying 19 counties in
Georgia. At this time it is impos
sible to say, but it is thought that
both-amendments were cacried.
