AUNT SOFRONY SAYS
That she would not swap an easy
conscience for the gold of Ophir.
That sho knows from experience
that, those who learn to work when
they are young, never regret it.
That she hates to see the dog
sticking out of a human being, but
it will stick out wherever it exists.
That home is just what the hus¬
band and wife make it—a little heav¬
en or a little hell on earth. It is
easy to make it either.
That it looks like Cupid is on
double duty down in Berrien, and
she’s in mortal drdad for the safety
of her feller down there.
That people who expect all sun¬
shine in this world are to be pitied.
They might "as well expect to fly
without a sign of a ying.
That home may be a sort of half¬
handed place without a sewing ma¬
chine, but that’s nothing to one
without a baby—so she hears.
That if what she hoars is true, a
handsome young widower, of Adel,
is awfully smitten with a charming
dark-eyed little maiden who resides
in another portion of the county.
That she rejoices to hear that the
streams south of Ocilla are swaging
down, and hopes that in a few weeks
travel may be resumed:—on bicycles.
She’s always in sympathy with the
afflicted.
That if she was as black as some
people she could name, she’d never
say another word about the color of
Others. She knows one man who is
so off-color that he can’t tell when
his face is clean—aa c isn’t an ed-
itor, either.

How to “Cot There.”
The way to “get there” depends
entirely upon where you wish to go.
If you wish to be respected, you
must make youseelf worthy of it.
If you would be believed, you must
always speak the truth. If you will
pay your bills promptly, you can al¬
ways find credit, and your paper will
be at par. In short, if you wish to
be treated like a gentleman, you
must be a gentleman. If you wish
to “get there” on time, you must
start on time and waste no moments.
If you wish to enjoy all the com¬
forts that life can afford, there is a
way to get there, but few there be
that find it. It is not found in the
massive accumulation of goods. I
have never tried this myself, but
have seen others try it. I never saw
a rich man who was not a miserable
man, and yet every man is groaning
to be rich. The wife of a rich man
once said: “I would sooner live in
one, of those tenant houses out there
and possess nothing, than to live as
I do.”
The apostle tells rich men to weep
and howl for the miseries that shall
come upon them. A rich man told
me that he “could not go to church
on Sunday and hear a sermon like a
man should—my mind is on my
business.” Said he would like to
serve the Lord one day in each week
if he could, v \>ut he couldn’t. No
wonder our Lord said: “IIow hardly
shall a rich man enter into heaven.”
But “In hell he lifted up his eyes.”
No man is ever satisfied with his ac¬
cumulation of wealth. His greed
for more increases as fast as b : s es-

V But if you wish to know just how
'to make a failure in everything, I
can tell you how to “get there.” Do
just as I have done and you will be
there. I have traveled every nook
and corner of that road, but as it is
of no interest to any one to know it,
decline to give it.' Just look for
my tracks as you go along, and
wherever you see them you had bet¬
ter switch off and go another way.
