C6 THE OCONEE ENTERPRISE DECEMBER 19, 2013 Guest receives award Jay Guest received the 2013 Community Patriot Award from the Reverend John Andrew Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at a recent chapter meeting. A graduate of Athens High School, Jay served in the U. S. Army Mechanized Infantry in Vietnam and is a life member of the Oconee Chapter of Disabled American Veterans. As a member of the John Devain Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, he has participated in more than 400 grave markings. While Commander of the Elijah Clarke Militia for six years, he planned skirmishes to commemorate the Battle of Kettle Creek. Jay organizes and leads color guards at Oconee Veterans Park. Guest and his wife, Sara Whittington, have lived in Oconee County for 27 years. Cassi Glass, an eighth grader at Malcom Bridge Middle School, traveled to Australia this summer with the People to People International program. She and a select group of students from all over the nation volunteered at a park, caring for kangaroos and other animals. With the assistance of a scholarship, she also traveled to Washington, D.C. recently for the Global Youth Forum hosted by People to People International. [Submitted photo] Barton graduates Pvt. Bradley Phillip Barton, 18, of Bogart, graduated from United States Marine Corps Boot Camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island recently. He successful ly completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD Parris Island as one of 79 recruits in Training Platoon 1090. While in recruit training, Pvt. Barton achieved Sharp Shooter status. Following Recruit Assistance he will report to Camp LeJeune, N.C. for one month at Military Combat Training then Military Occupation Specialty School at Pensacola, Ha. He is the son of Cindy E. Barton of Bogart and Robert P. Barton of Statham. | Submitted photo] Yearbook printer honored Piedmont Impressions, a division of Greater Georgia Printers, presented an award to North Oconee High School recently in recognition of the 2012 yearbook being honored with state and national awards. The yearbook was the winning entry at the Printing and Imaging Association of Georgia last spring. It helped Piedmont Impressions earn the PIAG 2013 Top Notch Printer Award. At the national Print Industries of America competition, Piedmont Impressions received the Premier Print Award in recognition of the yearbook printing excellence.
