M. Helms of Conyers went to Gainesville last week to see his little child, which has for some time been kept by his sis¬ ter-in-law, Mrs. McAlister. The child was delicate at first, but has grown to be a most beautiful babe. The committee appointed by the Sabbath schools of Conyers to select a place and time for the Picnic met this morning and unanimously agreed upon Rock¬ dale Paper Mills as the place and Friday, May 9th as the time, and rCtommend that all the merchants and business men of Conyers close their respective places of business on that day that all may participate. And our peo¬ ple are very proud of the compa¬ ny, and the company certainly ap¬ preciates the aid from the citizens in the past; and just at this time would appreciate a little more of the same kind to aid and'assist some of our young men to get them a dress uniform, Let the citizens call a meeting and make up a purse of One Hundred and Fifty Dollars, which amount, with the cash on hand, will fully uni¬ form the company. Show your faith and appreciation by your works. Citizen. Mrs. Eliza McLean, wife of Mr. J. S. McLean, died at her home in Atlanta last Friday morn¬ ing at 4 o’clock. She was the younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Hollingsworth, both of sacred memory to our people. Mrs. McLean was about 35 years old; was a pure, true, faithful member 'of the Presbyterian church of Conyers; was sick only a day and night. Her remains were brought to Conyers Sunday for burial. Dr. Quigg preached her funeral in a very impressive way. She leaves a husband and two children to lament her sudden death. Goode and Miss Sallie Almand at the home of the bride in this county, on last Wednesday afternoon, was one of the most brilliant society events that have ever occurred in our county. The ceremony was most impres¬ sively pronounced in the presence of a large circle of friends of the contracting parties by the Rev. A. J. Goss. The attendants were J. A. Goode with Miss Ida Almand, J. B. Sparks with Miss Tinie Goode, S. A. Brown with Miss Mary Longshcre, J. W. Cowan with Miss Lula Almand, and R. J. Guinn with Miss Lizzie McDon aid. Immediately after the ceremony, a most eloquent and splendidly prepared supper was served tho party. The table was a marvel of beauty, On Thursday the bridal party repeaired to the hpspitable home of Mr. D. C. Goode, where a sumptuous dinner was in waiting. The happy young cou¬ ple handsome were the recipients of many and valuable presents. The bride is one of the most beautiful and lovely young ladies of Rockdale county. Leaving the place and gladness of her early home, leaving the happy associations of her youngest days, she takes with her into her larger life of wedded womanhood our very best wishes. Mr. Goode, the groom, is one of our best young men and most enterprising young farmer. As they, this happy pair, step forth from the beauties of life’s morning to a nobler, though rougher sea of life, we wish for them many days of joy and use¬ fulness. Mrs. Mary A. He was best known conductor on the Ga. R. R., having been in the employ of the road 41 years. In 1851 he worked with our distinguished townsman, Mr. D. N. Hudson. Mr. Purcell was born and raised in Ireland, and like his country¬ men was warm-hearted* faithful in friendship, and true to hftnor and duty as the needle to the pole. He had few accidents, compara¬ tively none, considering road. his He long service on the was buried Tuesday in the Augusta cemetery, where his first wife and eleven children had preceded him.
