For Every Girl to Eemember.
I have seen mothers who have
sacrificed youth, health, appear¬
ance and comfort in the effort to
save money to educate and dress
their daughters, browbeaten,
crushed and virtually ignored by
their daughters in return for it all.
The American girl is taught that
she is a young princess from the
cradle to the altar. It is a great
misfortune when she forgets that
that the mother of a young prin¬
cess must be a queen, or queen
regent, and should be honored
and paid deference to as such.—
Ella Wheeler Wilcox.
“Why do you always come after
tea?” said a young lady. “I come
after T,” was the response, “in
order to be near U.”
“Oh, take me up, mama, it’s so
muddy.” Mama—“Walk across,
that's a good girl. Mama has all
she can do to carry poor Fido.”
An Irishman charged with an
assault, was asked whether he was
guilty. “How can I tell, your
honor, till I have heard the evi¬
dence?” was his reply.
Five-year-old William was talk¬
ing about his knuckles, and his
brother asked what he meant. “I
mean the little elbows on my fin¬
gers,” was the ready reply.—Ba¬
byhood.
“I’m afraid, Johnny,” said the
Sunday-school teacher, rather se¬
verely, “that I will never meet
you in heaven.” “Why, what
have you been doin’ now?”—Ash¬
land Press.
“The cat drank all the milk.”
“Did you see her?”
“No; Johnny told me she did
it.”
“Dont touch the cat; go and
catch Johnnie for me.”
Ethel—“Do you think he’ll com¬
mit suicide if I reject him?”
Maud—(sweetly)—“Oh, no. He
didn’t when I rejected him.’
Ethel—“Ah, but you must re¬
member that the two cases are
different.”—Munsey’s Weekly.
Small Boy (who has been un¬
dergoing imprisonment in a dark
closet, where he has discovered
and slyly eaten nearly a whole
jar of preserves)—I was very
naughty to run away, mama; and
think you did just right to puuiali
me the way you did.
“A three-year old little girl was
taught to close her evening pray¬
er, duiing tho temporary absence
of her father, with, ‘and please
watch over my papa.’ It sounded
very sweet, but the mother’s
amusement may be imagined
when she added, ‘and you had
better keep an eye on mama, too. 1 J7
A little Buffalo girl was not
feeling very well, and her parents
suggestedthatshemight be about
to have chicken-pox, then preva¬
lent. She went to bed laughing
at the idea, but early next morn¬
ing -went into her parents’ room,
looking very serious, and said ;
“Yes, it is chicken-pox, papa. I
found a fedder in the bed.”
“Say, pa, Solomon was the
wisest man that ever lived wasn’t

“Yes, my son, he is so consid¬
ered.”
“And he had 300 wives, didn't
he?”
“I believe that is the number,
my son.”
“Say, pa, if Solomon was the
wisest man that ever lived, how
did he ever como to get in such a
fix? You can’t live peaceably
with one?”
“Hem! haw! hem! he got wise
after he married them. You go to
bed.”
Looking backward. —Mi ss
Dasher (of Denver)—“So sorry
the season’s over, dear. What
luck?”
“Miss Browbean (of Boston,
dreamily)—“I am so transcend¬
ency happy. He whom I love
asked me to bo his wife. Ho is
fond of Emerson, is a member of
the Bellamy Society, and is pos¬
sessed largely of this worlds
goods and the root of ail evil.”
Miss D.—How jolly! I am too
, engaged. He is redheaded, says
‘a seen,’ and ‘I done,’ and can
lick anything of his weight in
Dourer. And he’s got the rocks,
you bet.”
Women are not slow to com¬
prehend. They’re quick. They re
alive, and yet it was a man who
discovered the one remedy for
their peculiar ailments. The man
was Dr. Pierce.
The discovery was his “Favor¬
ite Prescription”—the boon to
delicate woipen. Why go round
one foot in the grave,” suf¬
fering in silence—misunderstood
—when there’s a remedy at hand
that isn’t an experiment, but
■which is sold under the guarantee
that if you are disapointed in any
way in it, you can get your mon¬
ey back by applying to its mak¬
ers.
We can hardly imagine a wom
aa’s not trying it. Possibly it
may be true of one or two —but
we doubt it. Women are ripe for
it. They must have it. Think of
a prescription and nine out of ten
waiting for it. Carry the news to
them!
The seat of sick headache is not
in tho brain. Regulate the stom¬
ach and you cure it. Dr. Pierce’s
Pellets are the Little Regulators.
Schoolmarm (with ominous
look in her eye)—What made you
so late Robert Reed?

ously)—You have, eh ?

Well, Bobby, dear, I’ll have to
pardon you this time, but control
your temper the best you can.
