mi IM LOCALS FROM ALMON By Our Special Corespondent. Mrs. Pharr of Stone Mountain is making’ a protracted visit to her sister, Mrs. L. T. Longshore. Dr. J. S. Moore of Oxford visit¬ ed in the surburbs of Almon Fri¬ day afternoon. Miss Mollie Geiger of Coving ten is visiting her brother, Mr. C. H. Geiger, near this place. Prof. R. J. Guinn of Conyers spent part of Saturday and Sun¬ day with Mr. Will Park. Mr. Jimmie Stone came up from Rutledge and spent Sunday with home folks. Miss Minnie Shipley of Rock¬ dale was in Almon Sunday after¬ noon. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Marbut of Conyers visited relatives at this place Sunday. Mr. Marbut was for some time a highly esteemed citizen and merchant here and our people extend to him at all times a hearty welcome. Quite a number o! our young people visited PotteVdale Sunday morning. Considerable excitement pre¬ vailed here for a short time Thurs¬ day afternoon. The dry leaves etc in the woodland, it is pre¬ sumed, caught from a spark from Col. Holder’s gin and in a short time the little grove ivas almost enveloped in a cloud of smoke. The hands at the gin and others near by went willingly to work and sooa extinguished .the flames. No damage. Bird hunting is now in order. Saw a bird man the other day with his four dogs and guu maim¬ ing as many birds as he kills out¬ right and secures. This may be fine to the huntsman, but most cruel to the birds thus wounded and suffered to pine and die. Indian summer is giving us some tine weather and the farm¬ ers are making good use of it in gathering corn and getting out the last stray locks of the “fleecy staple.” This together with Gor¬ don’s election has put an im¬ mense smile upon the countenance of some one we know not of. We are much pleased with the new dress of the Banner and con¬ gratulate most heartily our es¬ teemed editor on being thus ena¬ bled to so improve the appear¬ ance of his worthy paper. Gaboon.
