Monday , . last . party . of . gentle- a a jnen were speaking of the result 0 f Saturday’s election. After come s discussion, humorous and otherwise, . .. it .. was agreed irrrnr| j x_ Cnn- ^ vers was now committed to the ‘‘public school" system and it nn^ht to be adopted as the bill , „ maioritv of the successive 'elections 0f one, f^^ddSpeSS' Mid the crowd dispersed. * In the face of the defeat of the •public school" bill it is quite likely some very earnest efforts will be made to remodel the old academy and secure a competent and acceptable corps of teachers to open school at the # beginning nothing of the new year. As yet definite has been agreed upon, but the matter is constantly sadly in cussed. That we stand ot tot«hss Mhoob era Uy admitted all around. It seems that we mast adopt the language ot Dr. Candler: Vo 01 tlle - * * Young men entrusted with re sponsibilities either great or toloveraercy, and to* waliYom bly with yoor God. *“* Some people are tlie bettor and happier by creeds or mottos. A good motto rightly toilo\secl wiU result in good. Also a good thing may be misused by its abuse. So it isn’t the thing itself ‘ha‘ but the improper handling merits disfavor. * * When Saul, the first king of Is people; L/liLoU it is said, i./rn “despised him, Tift rtrocortf fromthtaw^leTi a boih old and young that it'is often the very best thino- 7^ we possibly Especially can do is to remain is this true when we are in any meas ure farthest agitated, for then we are the from ourselves. * * 4v sentence: the ar°“ng “If wishes Sed V( . horses M «£ were poor people would ride." *** As a general thing all the peo pie are wiser than any one of the people This is a truism, and it’s possible for many to gain instruc lion from it. * * The smoke of the recent heated senatorial campaign has died away and every one is now calm. Therefore we are prepared to award honors to whom honors are due. It is doubtless true that Mr. T. E. Brodnax was chiefly in¬ strumental, under the intense in pressure securing of existing conditions, Gen. Gordon's elec¬ tion as U. S. Senator on the first ballot. So Mr. Brodnax has the honor in plain language of having elected our U. S. Senator. The delegation from Rockdale was strong, active and influential, and our senator, we dare say, feels deeply from grateful for the support our people. * * * Col. A. C.
