TEE ALLIANCE DEFIES THE LAW. A SHERIFF PREVENTED FROM SEL¬ LING MORTGAGED lands. From The Macon Telegiaph. Wichita, Kan J an. 12.—A body of Farinm Alliance to day resisted Sheriff Dobson of Harper county in an attempt to sell farms. The officer and attorney for the Johnston Loan and Trust Com pany of Arkansas City had oideis of sale on the property against which the mortgages aggregated $27,000, and when they attempted to dispose of the farms they were surrouuded by a hand of the Al¬ liance members, who ordered them to desist. Paying no atten¬ tion to them the sheriff proceed¬ ed with his business, but before he could get a bid be was jostled from his point of vantage and threatened with further personal violence if he did not leave. Be¬ ing unprepared for such an emer¬ gency, he went. This is a second case of a simi lar character, and proves very clearly that the Alliance is organ¬ ized to resist all process of law which will take*the farmers’ lands, hoping that the fanner legislature will at once pass a stay law. In talking of the matter this evening an Alliance leader upheld the lawless actions, and said the or¬ ganization was prepared to follow the same course throughout the country. ME1UT WINS. A citizens • • Wo desire to say to our that for rears we have been sel¬ ling Dr. King’s New Discovery for consumption, Dr. King’s New Lifu Pills, Bucklen’s Arnica Salve and Electric Bitters, and have never handled remedies that sell as well, or that have given such universal satisfaction, We do not hesitate to guarantee them every time, and we stand ready to refund tho purchase price, if satisfactory results do notiollow their use. These remedies have won their groat popularity purely on their merits. Dr. W. H. Lee & Son, Druggists. THE BLOOM OF AGE I A good woman never grows old. Years may pass over her head, but if benevolence and virtue dwell in Her heart she is as cheer¬ ful as when tho spring of life first opened to her view. IV hen we look upon a good woman we nev¬ er think of her age; she looks as charming as when the rose' of youth first bloomed on her chqpk. That rose has not yet faded; it will never fade. In the neighbor¬ hood site is tho friend and bene¬ factor. Who does not respect and love the woman who has passed her days in acts of kind¬ ness and mercy—whose whole life has boon a scene of kindness aud love aud a devotion to truth? No; such a woman connot grow oid. She will always be frCsh and bony ant in spirit, and active in humble deeds of mercy and beuevolence. If girls desire to retain tho hlcom aud beauty of youth, let them not yield to the away of fashion and folly; let them love truth and virtue, and to the close of life they will retain those feelings * which make now IFq appear a garden of sweets, ever fresh and ever new.—Ex. After a stay of abost one week in our town, Miss Minnie tPierce left for her home in Conyers Thursday last, to the extreme re¬ gret of some of our young men, Messrs. Colley hails from Athens now, while Bose returned to Milledge ville. It is thought by some that cot¬ ton will be a better price soon, while others are fdoubtful. Too much cotton for the present de¬ mands is the cause of tho present low price. Mr. J. N. Doolittle is still at work in tho interest of Walnut Grove, by building several now houses. If all of our people were as enthusiastic over tho upbuild¬ ing of Walnut Grove as Uncle Jessie, we would, without ques¬ tion, soon have a town of some note. A DUTY TO YOURSELF.
