Tired, weary worker, whose eyes are dim with the tears you have shed for the sin that is all around you, and which you seem so pow¬ erless to combat, through faith you shall subdue thi? kingdom of uprighteousness. You may be weak, you may be alone in your effort, you may have little appar¬ ent influence, but when by faith you are allied to the Lord who reigns, you shall be able to over come the mighty iu the itrength of the mightiest. True, we are in the midst of a fierce, hot strife. The stronghold of Satan seems so secure, so im¬ pregnable, the magnitude of the foe so gigantic, that our puny ef¬ forts appeal' unavailing to over¬ turn its dominion, But already to hearts tuned to catch the first breath of the Spirit’s whispered messages, steal the soft strains that toll us of the coming victory. Above the sob and the wail of sor¬ row, above the turmoil and clamor of evil, above the strife of the selfish crowd, above the fierce battle for worldly gain, there comes the glad assurance that the Lord liveth, and that His is the victory, oven your faith. Look buck over the wonderful portrait gallery of the lives of faith given us by the writer of the Epistle to tho Hebrews, and you will see the one that starts out first, not only iu historical order, but also first because it portrays the foundation on which is built each life of faith lived out in the history of God’s family, “By faith Abel offered unto God a moro excellent sacrifice than Cain.” Faith, dear sisters, means sacri¬ fice. We havo realized this iu the past. Let us get a fresh glimpse of this grand truth, and as the first streaks of oastern light her¬ ald the dawn of tho unfolding year, let us anew place our lives, our talents, our strength, our in¬ fluence, our time—above all, our love,—unreservedly in the hands of the loving Lord. Let us unite our sacrifice with His. Let us identify our life more completely with His, in earnest, itenso, un¬ selfish desire that as Ho has bles¬ sed, so He may mako us a bles¬ sing. Then, though this groat drink truflic may rise before us in all its state-supported power in the mag¬ nitude of its overwhelming evil, to us shall bo the victory, for through faith shall tho kingdoms of evil bo subdued.
