TOWN TALK.
Hems Finked IIij Here
and There IIii Iliir
Streets.
Will Use It Again. —Rockdale
Standard is as good as any I can
get. I will use it again if I can
get it.—W. K. Sims.
The Paters Say So. —The rain
is now over for a season; for the
newspapers say so, and they al¬
ways tell the truth, except—
La Grippe Conquered. —We
were very glad to see Dr. Glenn
on our streets last Monday. Hope
he may soon be himself again.
The Rain Recedes. —The rain
seems to hare given another re
bess. Hope it may last until the
farmers can do a little winter
plowing.
Died in Sheffield.— Mrs. Wil¬
liam Brooks died yesterday morn¬
ing about 4 o’clock. She will be
buried to-day at Salem Baptist
church in Sheffield district.
W. D. C. Bentley Sick.— We
learn that Mr. W. D. C. Bentley
of Lorraine district is suffering
very much from a tumor. W e
hope soon to learn of his recovery.
Lecture Postponed— Last Sab¬
bath evening being so inclement,
Dr. Quigg postponed his illustrat¬
ed lecture until the evening of the
fourth Sabbath. We hope then
to have fine weather.
Nothing Better. —I have been
using Rockdale Standard ever
s’nce it has been made, and it has
given entire satisfaction. I”don’t
think there is anything better for
coipn.—W. P. Plunkett.
Travling por the A. Q. C. Co.—
Mr. Joe H. Wallis is now travel¬
ing for the A. Q. C. Co.
He has just returned from a trip
to South Carolina, where he re¬
ports to have had good success.
Machen and Brown. —Col. E.
C. Machen, President of the M.
G. & A. road, and Mike Brown,
President of the Seaboard Con¬
struction Co., are expected to be
at Covington to-morrow on busi¬
ness.
Not Bl am able. —When any one
knows of local news, we would be
much obliged to them, if they
would bring it or send it to US.
Some one wmuld like to hear it.
Sometimes we are blamed for not
publishing what we never hear
until too late.
More Improvements.— The city
council are now putting up six
mew street lamps in our town.
How much nicer it would be,
though, if we could announce
that some one was putting in an
electric plant, and that we would
soon have electric lights !
A CHILD KILLED.
Another child killed by the use
of opiates given in the form of
Soothing their syrup. Why mothers
give children such deadly
poison is surprising when they
fan relieve the child of its pecu
ar troubles by using Dr.
Acker s Baby Soother. It con
tams no opium or morphine. Sold
by Dr. M. R. Stewart, Druggist
CONYERS, GA„ WEDNESDAY, FEB.
A. Q. C. Co.—The A. Q. C. Co.
of this place has now three men
traveling for it. This company
has grown steadily ever since its
organization in volume of busi¬
ness and profiit to its stockhold¬
ers. We understand that stock
cannot now be bought at any
reasonable price.
Birthday Party. —There was
quite an elegant Birthday Party
last Wednesday at the residence
of Mrs. M. A. Hollingsworth of
this place. It was given in honor
of her beautiful daughter, Miss
Alice. May there be many re¬
turns of the day.
Very Dangerous. —Both pa¬
rents and teachers in our place
should look after those little chil¬
dren who sometimes try to see
how long they can stand in front
of a coming train without being
run oyer. Rivalry among school
children in this direction is not
very desirable. Let it be stopped.
A Lovely Pair.— Monday last
though quite an inclement day,
Mr. Jim Hudson was in town.
His mission was to comfort, con¬
sole and otherwise to generally
rehabilitate the delapidated spirits
of Neighbor George L. Kennon,
who has been sadly dejected for a
few days on a trifling heart troub
le.
The Masons. —We hear that the
Masonic Fraternity is now much
revived in our midst, and that
they are going to repair the Hall.
There seems to have been a luke¬
warmness in the order here for
some time. Let interest be re¬
vived and the Hall elegantly fitt¬
ed up. There is plenty of good
work for such a brotherhood to
do.
Uncle" Bob Dead.— “Uncle
Bob” Fleming, after a very short
illness, died at his home in this
place last Thursday evening, and
was buried at Smyrna church in
this county on Sunday. Mr.
Fleming was one of our best
known citizens. He was never
married. Of his relatives he
leaves two unmarried sisters to
mourn his death. To the bereav¬
ed we extend our sympathy.
P. T. Barnum’s philosophy of Child¬
hood.
Childish laughter is the echo of
heavenly music.
The noblest art is that of mak¬
ing others happy.
Amusement to children is like
rain to flowers.
Childish wonder is the first
step in human wisdom.
If you -would be happy as a
child, please one.
Innocent amusement transforms
tears iuto rainbo-ws.
Evil thoughts are conquered by
wholesome recreation.
To best please a child is the
highest triumph of philosophy.
I would rather be called the
children’s friend than the world's
king.
He that makes knowledge most
attractive to the young is the king
of sages.
To stimulate wholsome curiosity
in the mind of the child is to
plant golden seed.

Monthly Meeting.
Friday night last was the regu¬
lar monthly meeting of the Con¬
yers Volunteers. Five new mem¬
bers, Messrs. E. H. Almand, J. C.
Almand, C. K. Gailey, Robert
Albert, Ira Farriil, were added to
the roll, and two markers, Masters
Tom Austin and Frank MeCalla,
were associated with the compa¬
ny. The company is in fine con¬
dition. Captain Weaver prides
himself on the Volunteer boys and
they to a unit bear to him the
warmest attachment The enlist¬
ment papers, so we are informed,
are now ready and the members
are urged to attend to the matter
of enlisting at once.
Cannot Be Beaten.
I used three kinds of guanos in
1890. Rockdale Standard is just
as good, if not better than any
guano we have ever used. Wo
are well pleased. We think it
cannot be beat taken all ’round.
H. J. <fc J. W. Maddox.
Married.
Last evening about 7 o’clock
Mr. Way man Albert and Miss
Elize Townsend, both of this
county, were united in marriage
at the residence of the bride’s
mother in Conyers, Rev. H. F.
Buchanan officiating.
We do not know Mr. Albert,
but hear he is a sober and thrifty
young man. Miss Townsend is
worthy and amiable, and has
many friends in the city.
We wish the happy pair many
years of a happy wedded life.
Entitled to the Best
All are entitled to the best that
their money will buy, so every
family should have, at once, a
bottle of the best family re nedy,
Syrup of Figs, to cleanse the sys¬
tem when costive or billious. For
sale in 50c and $1.00 bottles by al
leading druggists.
Get Ready.
So far as our recollection goes,
we never saw such a rainey season
before. In this county the ground
has not been in good condition
for plowing since January the
first. Farmers have, up to this
time, done nothing. We expect
now a better season for the re¬
mainder of this month. Should
this be so, then it will stand every
tiller of the soil in hand to make
the most possible of it; for more
bad weather -will follow. Also, it
is well to remember, that nearly,
if not quite, as much ean be made
by thorough winter preparation
for a crop as by thorough cultiva¬
tion after planting.

We authorize our advertised

visit to relatives and friends.

family of Atlanta visited the fami¬
ly of Mr. A. C. Ivey Sunday.
Mr. Ed Ragsdale informs us
there has been a hunting club or¬
ganized which will co-operate
with the fishing club, which he
thinks will prove a success.
We are exceedingly glad to see
Mr. Alex. Currie moving along so
well with his quarry again after
recovering from the serious acci¬
dent he happened to some time
ago. He is a most energetic
young man, and knows no such
word as fail.
A HAPPY MARRIAGE.
On last Sunday morning at 9
o’clock, at the residence of the
brides parents, Miss Emma Ste¬
phens, the lovely and accomplish¬
ed daughter of Mr. B. H. Ste¬
phens, was united in marriage to
Mr. C. B. Dabney of Henry coun¬
ty and recently a citizen of Rock -
dale. The ceremony was per¬
formed by Rev. E. L. McDaniel
in a very graceful manner. A
large number of the friends gath¬
ered to witness the ceremony.
Mr. Dabney is a model young
man in whom any woman might
feel proud in winning. His bride
is a lady with many traits o
character that will make his walk
through life a very pleasant ODe.
The young couple received a
hearty congratulation from a host
of friends. They left on Monday
to the home of Mr. Dabney’s fath¬
er, where they were tendered a
grand reception. Mr. Berry will
make his future home with his
parents and take care of them in
their declining days. May peace,
happiness and prosperity be their
lot all along the journey of life.

ALMON.

business trip to Almon Monday
last.

Grove is visitiug her daughter,

Mr. Willie Jackson returned
from a short visit to relatives and

little children, made a flying visit
to Almon Saturday.
Mr. “Bud” Bentley and family
left last week for Henry county,
where they go to attend the fa'li
er of Mr. Bentley, who, we under¬
stand is seriously ill.
“Aunt Harriet Martin,” an es
teemed colored woman living near
this place, has been dangerously
ill for some time. We hope, how¬
ever to hear of her early recovery.
The “back waters have run the
rabbits out,” and the nimrods of
this section are happy. One
young fellow was seen on the
street, followed by six canines,
carrying four fine rabbits and a
broad grin. •
There were no services at Shi¬
loh Sunday, owing to the indis¬
position of Dr. J. S. Moore, who
has a regular appointment for the
2nd Sunday of the month. We
regret the disappointment, and
trust he will be sufficiently recov¬
ered to fill his next appointment
at this place.
Some party or parties, evident¬
ly intent on mischief, have been
giving the agent at this place con¬
siderable trouble by breaking the
seals on the freight cars at night.
The agent is making an earnest
effort to discover the perpetrators,
and has his suspicions already
aroused and it would be well for
the offenders to desist. A word
to the wise is sufficient.
A few evenings since a party of
young people were discussing the
present rains, electrical phenom¬
ena etc., when a young lady re¬
marked: “Rev. Ira Hicks, for his
February prognosis, says, ‘Mer¬
cury and Venus have reached a
disturbing point with the planet
Vulcan and reactionary storms
may be expected.’ “And” con¬
tinued tli© lady, “I believe with
the prophet that there is some¬
thing wrong with tlia planets.”
