Almand are pro gressivo merchants and deter mined not to be outdone in any profitable improvement. THE ROSSEIt HO USE Now owned by Dr. J. P. Itosser and run by Mrs. Rosse: will soon be an establishment worthy of any town. Conyers has long felt the need of a first-rate hotel. Not that those who have run them be¬ fore woro unwilling, but they were unable to make the outlay necessury. Wo feel assured now' that Dr. Rossor’s financial ability and his ambition to succeed in everything he undertakes, together with Mrs. Rosser’s good taste, makes a grand success certain. Every town needs at least one good hotel and a good boarding house. These Conyers now has in the Rosser Hotel and the Law son House. A'REMA UK A RLE m WOMA N. Dr. G. W. Posey tells us of a vory remarkable old lady, Mrs. Watson, mother of Mr. Bill Wat¬ son. ■V She now lives in Alabama and is 99 years old. A few weeks ago her son, Mr. Tom Watson was married a sec¬ ond time, and his mother attended the festivities. While there she danced an old-fashioned reel with anothor very stout old lady eight ty years old, tired her out, and continued to spin glibly over the floor for fifteen minutes, keeping excellent time with the violins. Besides her physical strength this old lady has always boon re¬ markable for her loya of whisky and of the dance. HOOKS GIVaN A WAT. The Conyers Oil <fc Fert. Almand of this place died last Monday morning about half past six o’clock after several months sickness. 8he was buried yesterday at 2 o'clock in Rockdale Cemetery. Elder Eli L. McDaieli conducted funer alservices at the grave. Mrs. Almand left a son about gyears old and a loving husband, besides quite a number of rela tives and friends to mourn her death. We extend to the bereaved our hearty sympathy. LECTURE. Dr. Henry McDonald of Atlan¬ ta has promised to give one of his celebrated lectures next Friday night at the courthouse, if the courthouse can be had, provided the people of the place give him the proper encouragement. The entertainment will be for the benefit of the First Baptist church. Those wishing tickets can get them of J. S. Johnson or Dr. Lee. MARRIAGE. Miss N. S. Ivey of Walton county and Mr. John W. Street of Rockdale county were united in marriage last Sunday at the residence of the brids’t father, Mr. Starr of Logansville oflici ciating. We wish them great success and a happy life. TECHNOLOGIC A L SCHOOL A few days ago we received the following letter from Dr. Hop¬ kins:— Atlanta, Ga., March 4, 1891. Dear Sir: Will you kindly an¬ de¬ nounce that a preparatory partment of the Ga. School of Technology will be opened the 16th of the present month (March.) old Applicants must be 16 y ears and will be admitted with out ex amination.
