To The Public:
When I gave my announcement
to the printer as a candidate for
the Legislature, I did so feeling
that, if selected by my party in
the democratic primary, I would
he able physically to lead the par¬
ty to success in the general elec¬
tion ; I gave it feeling that the
people of my county, to represent
whom would be an honor to any
man, would give me their endorse¬
ment. The words of encourage
ment and the honest offers of sup¬
port from every part of the coun¬
ty, the good wished of my friends
in every part of the state, are ap¬
preciated beyond expression, and
it is to me a source of deep regret
that I am forced by the condition
of my health to withdraw my an¬
nouncement.
The nominee of the Democratic
party for representative should be
a man who is in full sympathy
and touch with the people and is
capable, physically and in every
other way, to enter earnestly and
actively into the fight which is
before us. We have such men and
it will not be hard to bring them
to the front. Had there been any
avowed candidate in my party in
opposition to me I would have
hesitated to withdraw, although
knowing it would be an injustice
to my family and myself to con¬
tinue, but, as it is, I can do so
without discredit to ray feelings
or injury to my party.
Thanking my friends for their
many kind assurances of support;
hoping that some man will be se¬
lected who will represent the peo¬
ple as they deserve and trusting
that my health may so improve
that I can in the near future en¬
ter actively into the political work
of my country, as every patriotic
citizen should do, I formerly with
draw my name as a candidate for
the Legislature.
Respectfully,
J. N. Hale.

begining at 3 o’clock. Dr. H.
Quigg, Dr. J. W. Quillian and
Rev. P. P. Winn each took part
in the services, Dr. Quigg deliver¬
ing a most beautiful funeral dis
course. Dr. Quillian and
Winn also made a few appropriate
remarks.
After services at the church, Mr.
Hollingsworth was buried in
Rockdale cemetery beside his lit¬
tle son, who was laid to rest there
some years before.
He left a wife and six children,
five daughters and one son to
mourn his sad death.
Mr. Hollingsworth will be miss¬

man, perhaps not having an ene¬
