Mr. W. N. Everitfc has just fin¬ ished an elegant job of painting at Dr. Lewis A. Lee's residence now occupied by Mr. Joe Nor¬ man. One merchant told ns recently that a two line “ad” in the Banner sold him at least $13 worth of goods. Judicious advertising pays. Mr. V. C. Almand will sell fer¬ tilizers for Almand & Stewart this spring. Volley is a hustler and will get a good share of the guano trade. Almost everybody in the Neely settlement, near Salem camp¬ ground, are sick, and there are net well ones enough to wait on the sick. Mr. W. A. Alnaand, keeper of the paupsr farm, has been very sick for several days past, but we are glad to learn that he is now improving. Mr. Henry Tucker has moved his family to town and he will sell goods for Cannon & Wood Bros, this year. We welcome Mr Tucker to town. In this issue can be found an “ad.” of the Gailey Drug Co. Mr. Thompson Stewart has sold a half interest in his mercantile business to Mr. 8. L. Almand and the business will be considerably enlarged. Success to them. Mr. T ant Farrill has bought him some geese and we under¬ stand that he has been sitting up at night trying to make them roost in the tree with his chickens. Miss Mattie Elder has taken up a school at the Gailey Academy, near Pine Log bridge. Miss Mattie is an excellent young lady and will make a good teacher. All the inmates of the pauper farm are sic k, except one old ne¬ gro, and at this writing it is be¬ lieved that “Uncle” Levi Jarrell cannot survive many more days. Mr. J. C.
