Something played havoc with
a nice gang of chickens for Mrs.
J. J. Green Tuesday night. Wo
| understand that 17 chickens and
the mother hen were killed and
left lying in the yard. It is
thought that a mink or weasel is
in that vicinity.
Mr. T. C. McCalla has returned
home from a trip to Florida. He
had a fine trade and is now enjoy¬
ing a few days vacation with his
family. There are no better sales
men on the road than Mr. Tom,
and his houso justly appreciates
his efficiency as a salesman.
The bridge gang of the Geor¬
gia railroad are building a new
water tank in Conyers. The
three old tanks have been torn a
way and one large one will take
their place. The capacity of the
new tank will be 54,000 gallons,
about 10,000 gallons more than
the three old tanks.
Dr. H. V. Hardwick has bought
the Baptist church lot adjoining
his home on Decatur street and it
is said that he will turn it into a
park. The old church will be torn
down at once, and though it will
seem odd without it, the looks of
the street in that vicinity will be
considerably improved.
Mr. Charlie Farrill would like
to know who took his overcoat

were in the hall and the thief
slipped in while in while Mr.
Farrill and his family were at
supper, The thief has made good
his escape.
Mr. Walter D. Almand, who

worthily bestowed.

Judge A. M. Helms and Mr. J.
P. Tilley went out to Gee’s mill
Monday afternoon to see how the
new bridge was progressing and
indulged in a ride across the river
on the lumber car. A little negro
did the pushing, and as the car
turned down grade he missed bis
footing and fell through, leaving
the car to go as it pleased. The
car with its passengers, Judge
Helms, Mr. Tilley and a negro
j woman, soon gained considerable
speed an 1 left the track, coming
to a sudden stop against a walnut
tree and spilling its freight. Judge
Helms says the negro woman said
“Good Lord,” and left; what he
and Mr. Tilley said is not known
to us. Nobody hurt. See Mr.

ANNUAL CELEBRATION.
On last Saturday, May 1st, the
Rockdale Sunday School Asso¬
ciation held its annual celebra¬
tion at Smyrna camp ground, six
miles south-west of Conyers The
meeting was presided over by Dr.
J. A. Stewart, the president, in
his usual good humored and
graceful way.
Though the day was a forbid¬
ding one,the weather being cloudy,
cold and stormy, there were a
goodly number in attendance.
Three schools were there in suf¬
ficient number to take part separ

ately as schools, Union, Rockdale
and Smyrna.
As the people were a little late
in gathering, and as Dr. H. Quigg
had an appointment to preach at
10 o’clock, the celebration exer¬
cises proper were postponed till
12:30, p. m. Between Dr. Quigg’s
sermon and the singing a most
copious and delicious basket din¬
ner was served, and the large
crowd present, the appetite being
sharpened by the crisp, chilly air,
partook most liberally of the
abundant repast.
The first thing after dinner waB
a song by all the schools, followed
by prayer by Dr. Quigg.
Then came a song by Smyrna
school and speech by Prof. Otto
Clotfelter.
Next Rockdale School gave a
song and speech by W. H. Mc¬
Daniel.
Union then followed with q,song
and speech by Mr.Lemuel Bowen.
The songs and speeches were
one and all most excellent, and
every one deserves and should re
ceive special mention, if we only
had space.

It was a great occasion, and
only one thing marred the enjoy¬

disagreeable weather.
