and appreciative audience at the
Methodist church in this place
last Sunday at 11 o’clock. Dr.
Candler was accompanied to Con¬

Mr Jas. McClelland lias sever¬

Front and has gone to Henry
county to take up a school, near

hope Mr. Me. will not forget to
visit us once in a while.
Master Dick Stewart is one of
the pages in the state senate.
Dick is a bright boy and perhaps,
one day, he may occupy the high
position that his grandfather now
occupies—Senator from the 27th
district. Who knows?
Mr. Henry Cook has moved his
family from this place to Atlanta.
Mr. Cook went last week and his
familv followed on Monday. Mrs.
Lee Maddox, sister of Mrs. Cook,

May success go with them.

CONYERS, GA., THURSDAY, NOV. 18, 1897.
Hon. R. H. Cannon bad a bale
of cotton burned at Ins home one
day last week and came near los
ins: several more. One of his lit
tie boys struck a match ou the
bagging and the flames spread so
rapidly that a whole bale w T as lost
before they could be extinguished.
Rev. J. H. Miller, Field Worker
for the Ga. S. S. Association, will
be in Conyers next Thursday,
Nov. 25th, and will hold a service
in the Presbyterian church at the
prayermeeting hour. Let all
come out and give him a good
audience. He is in a noble cause,
and should be encouraged.
On Sunday, October 31st, Rev.
R. A. Bowman, officiating, Mr.
Roy Swann and Miss Bessie
Luckie, both of this county, were
united in marriage. For some
cause, known only to the young
couple, the marriage was kept a
secret uutill last Saturday, when
it was announced. The Banner
extends best wishes for a prosper
ous and happy life.
In the past few nights several

by some unknown parties. The
parties thus engaged do not seem
to realize the eminent danger at¬
tached to such fu*. Poison
thrown into a yard is liable to be
picked up by a little child and
eaten. Better let the dogs all
live than to kill one child. Stop
throwing poison into yards.
We are requested to say that
the relatives of Miss Ezie Marks,
who died at Mrs. Jno. F. Den
nard’s last Saturday, wish to ex¬
press their appreciation and
thanks to all who so kindly aided
in helping to bear the burial ex¬
penses of the young lady. She
was a poor girl and had been sick
for quite a while, and through the
kindness of Mr. Math Norton, a
nice purse was easily made up
and the expenses paid. Conyers
always opens her heart to any¬
thing like this, and the ones help¬
ed are never slow to show their
appreciation in return.

Next Sunday Rev. H. J. Adams
will preach his last sermon at {be
Methodist church in this place bo
fore the annual conference, which
meets at Athens next Wednesday.
It may be that Mr. Adams will
be returned to this place for an¬
other year, and it is hoped of a'l
that lie may. Ho is loved by all
the people of a'd the denomina¬
tions, and his return to this place
would be a source of much pleas¬
ure to his many admirers.
We call special attention to
Johnson & Goode's advertise¬
ment in this paper. They are
going to give away to some little
girl, under 14 years of age, a
beautiful little nickle plated
Range. We have examined the
stove and kuow it to be a gen¬
uine, sure enough stove, and any
little girl would be glad to g 6 t it.
Go to their store and see it, and
don't forget the advertisement, for
it tells you how you can get it free.
Mr. R. E. Butler and his father,
of Marietta, spent last week in
this county with relatives and
friends. They spent Friday night
with Hon. W. F, McDaniel, at
Oak Grove, and in a conversation
with u 3 Saturday morning, Mr.
Butler stated that he didn't know
of any farmer in the state who is
better fixed than Mr. McDaniel.
His nice two story rock barn and
handsome dwelling was compli¬

KILLING IN ROCKDALE.
Last Saturday night about 8 o’¬
clock, ’ John Morrison shot and fa- !
tally wounded Charley , Robinson, .
J
from which he died on Sunday. ‘
The row occurred in the road di¬
rectly in front of Mr. Wm. Beat
tie’s heme, near Oak Grove, and
two miles above town.
A wagon load of negroes from
Lithonia attended the circus at
Covington Saturday and when
they came back through Conyers
at night, about 7:80 o’clock, the
whole crowd was drunk and un¬
ruly. Cheif Austin tried to quiet
the negroes, but they became more
boisterous and even threatened to
kill the first policeman that laid
hands on them. Chief Austin,
like the fearless man he is, went
into the crowd and arrested one
of the negroes without
The negro gave bond for
ance at court Monday morning,
and the drunken crowd proceeded
homeward.
When they reached the place a
bove stated a general melee oc¬
curred in which several shots were
fired, resulting in the death of
Robinson. L is said that the ne

and indict the whole business.
