The city now owns the school
bui'ding. The price paid was
$2,137,50, parable in five annual
installments. This is a redieu
lously low p’ice for this building
and is only half of the original
cost. The house was built by a
stock company, but not with any
view of making anything out of
it. The company had the good
of the town at heart, and for the
last few years the profits have
been put out for improvements.
However, we are glad the town
has bought the building.

MR. S. M. STILL DEAD.
Last Saturday morning the peo¬
ple of Conyers were shocked by
the announcement of Mr. S. M.
Still’s sudden death, which oc¬
curred at his home on McDon¬
ough street about 9 o’clock. Mr.
Still attended to his duties in
town Friday, as usual, and went
home at night complaining of se¬
vere pains in his feet and legs, but
nothing of serious importance
was attached to his complaints,as
he frequently complained in this
way. He was no worse Saturday
morning and went about t he house
as usual. At 9 o’clock he grew*
suddenly ivorse and died almost
instantly, Mrs. Still and Miss
Mattie McDonald being the only
ones present. The neighbors went
in at once, but life was extinct
and could be done.
Mr. Still was well known to all
of our people. For a number of
years he had run a dray in this
place and enjoyed a good patron¬
age. He had few personal ene¬
mies and was generally liked for
his many pleasant qualities. He
was an old Confederate soldier and
few men enjoy a better war record.
He recently wrote to Judge Geo.
W. Ilillyer of Atlanta, with whom
he was in the war, offering him
pay for some act of kindness he
had performed, and his answer
shows the high esteeai this notet.
Georgian had for his fellow com¬
rade. Here is the letter:
“Mr. S. M. Still, Conyers, Ga.
Dear Sir:—This is a labor of
love and I would not have a cent
for it. I would rather get up at
midnight or walk 25 miles to do
yq,u a kindness than to charge you
anything for this service.
“A few years ago I was on the
Gettysburg battlefield, and passed
by the very spot where you fell
and where I laid you down by the
rock wall. The trees and fences
and main features of the land¬
scape have been preserved and the
locality is easily recognized, J
picked up an old piece of leather,
evidently part of a cartridge box,
within a few yards and possibly
at the spot where you was struck.
I do not remember that any other
of our men were hit exactly there,
as we immediately went forward
in the charge,—that is except Jack
Giles; and he, you know, was a
courier for Gen. Anderson and had
no cartridge box. I have surmis¬
ed that, as you were far too badly
hurt to take care of yours, and as
the litter corjis that carried you
away would naturally leave such
a thing for the Ordinance depart¬
ment to pick up, it may have been
; overlooked, and . nnssiVilv pO-.f Jiy this

And so it might be found with
all who had dealings him. Mr.
Still was a clever man, a kind hus¬
band and father, and had many
friends. The remains were bu¬
ried in Eastview cemetery Sunday
afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. II.J.
Adams conducted services at the
grave.
Mr. Still leaves a wife and six
children, besides a host- of rela¬
tives, to mourn his death, with
whom the Banner deeply sympa¬
thizes.
SOMETHING TO KNOW.
It may be worth something to
know that the best medicine ...
very
for restoring the tired out ner
you. system to a healthy vigor is
Electric Bitters. This medicine
is purely vegetable, acts by giving
tone to the nerve centres in the
stomach, gently stimulates the
liver and kidneys, and aids these
organs in throwing of impurities
in the blood. Electric Bitters im¬
proves the appetite, aids digestion,
and is pronounced by those who
have tried it as the very best
blood purifier and nerve tonic.
Try it. Sold for 50c or $1.00
per bottle at Dr. 'N. H. Lee’s drug
store.
CARD OF THANKS.
To the many kind friends who
exhibited such tender sympathy to
us in our sad affliction, and did
so many acts of kindness, lifting,
to a great extent, the weight of
sorrow that rests upon us, we de¬
sire to express onr appreciation
and gratitude. We shall ever
treasure in memory the many acts
of kindness of our friends, and, as
we remember them in future days,
they will be a solace and comfort
to us in our bereavement. Again
thanking the good people, we beg
to remain,
Gratefully yours,
Mrs. S. M. Still and Family.
