WHITAKER ANNOUNCES. Since the retirement of Mr. B. L Hudson for clerk of superior court, many friends have prevailed make upon Mr. J. E. Whitaker to the race for that office, and he has decided to do so. Mr. Whitaker has served the county for a number of years in the capacity of treasurer, which . position he now holds, and has made a splendid officer. He. is fully equipped to fulfill ti e duties of the office to which he aspires, and we cannot cal! to mind a bet¬ ter man for the position. desires to thank Mr. Whitaker his many friends in the county for their past indorsement and boI cits a continuance of the same at the next election. CLOTFELTEB ANNOUNCES. Mr. William G. Clotfelter au¬ thorizes us to announce that he will make the race for tax collec¬ tor Ibis year. Mr. Clotfelter is we ! l known to our people, having served the county for a number of years in a satisfactory manner. He is well fitted for the position of tax col¬ lector and will make a splendid off.cay if elected. We know of no one more de¬ serving than Mr. Clotfelter and we predict that he will adorn that office the coming year. A BILL BY MR. CANNON. Among the many laws enacted by the late legislature is one which has been favorably com¬ mented on by the press of the state. It was introduced by Hon. R. H. Thomas B. Felder, possesses in full measure our ad¬ miration, confidence and esteem. Second. That this gallant young Democrat and peerless champion of the rights of the peo¬ ple be heartily commended to our fellow Georgians of the Fifth Con¬ gressional district as being emi¬ nently fitted for the position to which he aspires. elected he will, Third. STATE TICKET SUGGESTED A correspondent to the Augusta Tribune suggests the following state ticket, which, he says if elected would place the state un¬ der the guidance of good men, and that the people would enjoy the sensation of once again living under a thoroughly honest and clean administration: For governor, James K. Hines' of Fulton county; secretary of state, W. F Carter of Effingham; attorney general, Cary F. Thoin ton of Muscogee; state treasurer, Gen. William Phillips, of Cobb; comptroller general, Ben Milikin of Wayne; commissioner of agri¬ culture, W. L. Peek of Rockdale; state school commissioner, John Temple Graves of Floyd; judges of supreme court, Walter B. Hill of Bibb; Clairborn Snead of Columbia. WALLIS—CHRISTIAN. On last Sunday evening at the residence of Mr. W. V. Almand, Mr. William L. Wallis and Miss Ola Christian were uuited in the holy bonds of matrimony, Rev. I. G. Walker officiating. The marriage was a very quiet affair, only a few intimate friends being present at the ceremony. The bride is an accomplished young lady, has a loveable dis position, and possesses in a large degree those rare charms which are calculated to win a young mans heart. Mr. Wallis may well be congratulated upon hav¬ won so fair a The groom, (better known among the boys as “Kizzie”) is a young man of sterling ability aud business tact and has a bright and prosperous future before him Mr. Wallis is an active member of the Conyers Volunteers, and that company, following out its usual custom, proceeded to “shoot” their comrade, “Kizzie,” on Mon day night. Accordingly a salute of live guns was fired and many toasts offered to the health, sue cess aud happiness of the bride and groom.
