The Catastrophe Discussed By the Officials of the Navy. Secretary of the Navy Long received Captain Sigsbee’s dispatch but a few minutes before the Associated Pi ess dispatches from Havana were handed him. He received the news with apparent calm, and his first act was to comply with (Japtain Sigsbee’s request that assistance be sent from Key "West. He immediately wired Captain For¬ sythe, at Key West, to proceed with the naval tender Fern to Havana har¬ bor. Secretary Long then sent for Cap¬ tain Dickens, and the two discussed Captain Sigsbee’s brief telegram. The disaster is the greatest which has befallen the American navy since the disaster at Apia many years ago. While neither the secretary nor Cap¬ tain Dickens are inclined to discuss the probable cause of the accident, several suggestions were ventured upon. another tel¬ Later the secretary sent egram to Key West, directing that the tender Mangrove also be sent to Ha¬ vana. The populace,” the dispatch adds, “are bitterly opposed to such a course, are exceedingly hostile to the government nnd may make a demon stration. A Beautiful Girl’s Affliction. From the Republican, Versailles, Ini. The Tuckers of Versailles, Ind., like all fond parents, are completely wrapped up in their children. Their daughter Lucy, in particular, has given them much concern. She is fifteen, and from a strong, healthy g* mere skeleton. She seemed to have no life at all. Her blood became impure and finally she became the victim of nervous prostra¬ tion. Doctors did not help her. Most of the time she was confined to bed, was very nervous and irritable, and seemed on the verge of 8t. Vtt-us’ dance. “One morning,” said Mrs. Tucker, “the doctor told us to give berDr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale People, which he brought with him. He said he was treating a similar case with these pills and they were curing the patient. We began giving the pills and the next day could see a change for the better. 1 m 1 ,1 1 ik •V K Ir ; j i .. 1 i Jfflil ,1 Discussed Their Daughter's Case for Hours. The doctor came and was surprised to see iBuch an improvement. He told us to keep giving her the medicine. We gave her one pill after each meal until eight boxes had been used when she was well. She has Dot bean sick since, and we have no fear of the old trouble returning. We think the cure almost miraculous.” Fkank Tuckeb, Mrs. Frank Tucker. Subscribed and sworn to before me this 28th day of April, 1897. Hugh Johnson, Justice of the Peace.
