Officials of the Navy.
Secretary of the Navy Long received
Captain Sigsbee’s dispatch but a few
minutes before the Associated Pi ess
dispatches from Havana were handed
him.

calm, and his first act was to comply

assistance be sent from Key "West.

sythe, at Key West, to proceed with

bor.
Secretary Long then sent for Cap¬
tain Dickens, and the two discussed
Captain Sigsbee’s brief telegram.
The disaster is the greatest which
has befallen the American navy since
the disaster at Apia many years ago.
While neither the secretary nor Cap¬

several suggestions were ventured

SPANIARDS ARE ANGRY
Over Prospect of Apology to Our
Government.
A special from Madrid says: 4 . The
populace of this city is greatly enraged
owing to the belief that the Spanish
cabinet has apologized to the United
States. The populace,” the dispatch
adds, “are bitterly opposed to such a
course, are exceedingly hostile to the
government nnd may make a demon
stration. The people prefer war to an
apology, thinking that Spain will suf
fer the least thereby, as war would be
exceedingly disastrous to the large
commerce of the United States.”

SILVERITES ISSUE ADDRESS.
Leaders of Three Parties Make Appeal
to Voters of the Country.
A Washington special says: The
addresses on behalf of the democratic,
populist and silver republican parties,
which are the result of the conferences
which have been in progress among
the leaders of these parties at the capi
tol were issued Tuesday.
They seek to unite the members of
the three parties in future elections
upon tbe financial issue as the question
of paramount importance, and are
separate appeals to each of the parties 1
to consolidate for this purpose.

The Tuckers of Versailles, Ind., like all
fond parents, are completely wrapped up
in their children. Their daughter Lucy, in
particular, has given them much concern.
She is fifteen, and from a strong, healthy
g*
mere skeleton. She seemed to have no life
at all. Her blood became impure and finally
she became the victim of nervous prostra¬
tion. Doctors did not help her. Most of
the time she was confined to bed, was very
nervous and irritable, and seemed on the
verge of 8t. Vtt-us’ dance.
“One morning,” said Mrs. Tucker, “the
doctor told us to give berDr. Williams’ Pink
Pills for Pale People, which he brought with
him. He said he was treating a similar case
with these pills and they were curing the
patient. We began giving the pills and the
next day could see a change for the better.

Discussed Their Daughter's Case for Hours.
The doctor came and was surprised to see
iBuch an improvement. He told us to keep
giving her the medicine. We gave her one
pill after each meal until eight boxes had
been used when she was well. She has Dot
bean sick since, and we have no fear of the
old trouble returning. We think the cure
almost miraculous.”

The condition described by Mrs. Hoff¬

lots of sick women struggle on with
their daily tasks disregarding the
urgent warnings until overtaken by
actual collapse.
The present Mrs. Pinkham’s experi¬
ence in treating female ills is unparal¬
leled, for years she worked side by side
with Mrs. Lydia E. Pinkham, and for
sometimes past has had sole Charge
of the correspondence department of
her great business, treating by letter
as many as a hundred thousand ailing
women during a single year.
