A special cablegram of Monday from Port Said was to the effect that Ad¬ miral Camara’s squadron was in the harbor awaiting orders. The squadron consists of the battleship Pelayo, Ad¬ miral Camara’s flagship, the ironclad Emperador Carlos Quintos, two armor¬ and ed cruisers, three torpedo boats five transports carrying 4,000 troops. A later dispatch stated that upon the application of the United States consul, orders were issued forbidding the coaling at Port Said of Admiral Camara’s fleet until further orders. A special dispatch from Madrid says the minister of marine, Senor Aunon, has made a statement to the effect that Admiral Camara’s squadron will leave Port Said at once for the Philippine islands. He is also credited with say¬ ing he believes the squadron is power¬ ful enough to defeat the ships under command of Bear Admiral Dewey. The dispatch further announees that the hope is expressed in Madrid that Manila will be able to resist until the arrival there of Admiral Camara’s squadron. Camara’s squadron is the most for¬ midable Spain has afloat in total ton¬ nage, strength of individual ships, armor and guns. It is apparent that the main reliance of Camara’s fleet is on the battleship Pelayo, the armored cruiser Carlos V, and the two new torpedo boat destroy¬ ers, Audaz and Osada. The others are auxiliaries and colliers. As there are only two armored ships in the lot, Ad miral Dewey’s fleet of protected but unarmored ships * will probably take care „„„„ Of this q Spanish -„v, squadron. With With the Monterey added he could certainly do so. Admiral Camara has still about eight thousand miles to go. Supposing his squadron to travel at the rate of 200 miles a day, which is a liberal allow ance when the speed made by Admiral Cerveras ^ squadron is taken __• into con- ____ sideration, Camara will be at least 40 days en route, arriving at Manila by August 2. Bear Admiral Dewey’s squadron at Manila is 7,000 miles from his base, San Francisco. The Monadnock left for Mauila on Thursday. Allowing her to proceed across the Pacific at the same rate of speed that Camara’s fleet will use in the Mediterranean and In¬ dian ocean, our monitor will report to the flag by July 30. The eastern squadron, which the United States will now send against Spain, far outranks this Spanish squadron, the Iowa and Oregon ex¬ ceeding the Pelayo and Carlos V at every point, tvhile the other United States vessels are far superior, ship for ship, to those of the Spanish squad¬ ron, with the single exception of the two Spanish torpedo boat destroyers. SOLDIERS LAiD TO REST. Bodies Were Buried in Trenches On Field of Action. With the exception of Captain Cap ron all the rough riders killed in the LaQuasina fight were buried Monday morning on the field of action. Their bodies were laid in one long trench, each wrapped in a blanket, Palm leaves line the trench and were heaped in profusion over the dead heroes. Chaplain Brown read the beautiful Episcopal burial service of the dead and as he kueltin prayer every trooper, with bared head, knelt around the trench. Captain Capron’s body was carried into Jnragua and buried on a hillside near the seashore back of the provis¬ ional hospital. LAW ON BLOCKADES. Navy Department Issues a Voluminous Circular of Instructions. A* *•’ ;" J Under the head of “Instructions to Blockading Vessels and Cruisers, ’ the navy department has issued general orders No. 492, which is likely to be hereafter regarded almost as a com¬ plete epitome of the best international law relating to blockades. The work has been in contemplation for months and the best legal minds in the state, war and navy departments have participated in framing the or¬ der. The duties of a master of a block¬ ading vessel are clearly set out in de¬ tail and no neutral acting in good faith would have excuse for complaint if the letter of the circular were followed in the case of blockades. OATES AWAITS ORDERS. Alabamian Has No Command as Yet, But Is Ready For Assignment. A Montgomery, Ala., dispatch says: Geueral Oates has returned from Mo¬ bile without a command. On his re¬ turn from Washington he went on to Mobile where he found that the two Texas regiments and two Alabama reg¬ iments had been ordered to Miami and had been assigned to General W. W. Gordon, of Savannah, and General Oates returned home to await an as signmet. He has asked for and still hopes to get both Alabama regiments, although there is some doubt about their being transferred after having been assigned. So when Doctors Copeland and Cooper are asked if they treat all chronic diseases they answer yes. because experi¬ ence has taught them that nearly every chronic disease in this climate is due to a general catarrhal condition of the sys¬ tem, and in treating this condition they cure the disease.
