Bohan, was discovered on fire at 3 o’elock Monday morning, and within an hour the hotel and four of the six cottages adjacent were de¬ stroyed. Some of the guests had nar row escapes but, luckily, no lives were lost and no one suffered serious injury. The origin of the fire is un¬ known. *' * The American Missionary . associa tionat New York has received dis patches stating that the. Rev. . B. Fletcher, a colored Congregational minister and one of its missionaries, had Ipeen shot while attempting to or ganike a Congregational church at Smiley, Ga., which is about 20 miles fr,om his home at Hagan. It seems that-Fletcher . had previously . been warned against going to Smiley. JH * * Fitzgerald fs greatly interested in the proposition to allow the soldier boys to go back to their homes, as she furnished two hundred and eighty eight men for the war, that is eight per cent of her population and twenty five per cent of her voters. This is believed to exceed the percentage of soldiers to total population of any town in the United States. Fitzgerald had just completed nine brick stores before the.war, but she built and completed eleven brick stores during the war. At noon Sunday the Spanish prison¬ ers who have enjoyed for more than three months undisturbed quiet in the barracks of Fort McPherson, near At lanta, were marched to the two special cars arranged for them in front of the post and there took their leave of At lanta. A large crowd of spectators were on hand to bid the dons goodby. Their destination- is -Portsmouth, N. H.,. where they will find several hun¬ dred of their countrymen who were captured in the big naval engagement off Santiago. An order from Judge Newman has been received and filed by Clerk Brown at Columbus regarding Eagle and Phenix fees. The master com¬ missioner, Captain J. W. Murphey, was directed to pay the amounts agreed upon in the cases compromised at the Atlanta conference of the lawyers and officials who had settled their claims in this way. Renau, formerly of At¬ lanta, and for thirty-eight years a conductor on the Central railroad. Captain Benau • has for the past twelve months been a resident of Norcross, Ga., but was at Carlisle, Ind., visiting a brother there at the time of his death. Captain Renau was a native of Georgia and died at the good old age of 73. He spent hi. life in the railroad business and was actively en gaged up to five years ago when he re¬ tired. ♦ n®K^wr1.«t l Sait ta dicates that the fair will be one of the most successful ever held in the coun¬ ty. The list contains many induce ments to the farmers of Cobb county to make exhibits and some very valu¬ able prizes have been offered for the winners and exhibitors. The fair will be held at Marietta, beginning on Tuesday, October 11th, and closing on Friday, the 14th. Many applications have already been made for space for exhibits, and the products and re¬ sources of Cobb county will be shown to great advantage during the fair. The fair and' races this year promise to be the best ever held in Cobb. Captain Clem G. Bradley, of the Georgia volunteer artillery, is said to have in his custody $450 of the funds of the Fifth Georgia regiment machine gun battery which he has failed and refused to surrender. The members of the battery who did not go into the United States service with Captain Bradley are determined to get their money back, and have stated that they will use every possible means calculated to re cover it The affair is to create no little stir in Georgia milita ry circles, as Captain Bradley has for a number of vears been a prominent officer of the Fifth Georgia regiment. Nothing of a criminal nature is charged against the Captain. 1 Georgia day at the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition at Oma ha, Neb., promises to be a grand occa sion and a great crowd of Georgians will be present on that day. Septem ber 29th has been chosen as Georgia day and it will be one of the most im portant state days.
