To Our Negroes. # The mnn who attemps to secure an office by tearing down the social bearers wliieh are the defence of his wife and childrens is unworthy, the vote are respect of any decent white man are self respcting negroe. The negro an white man can live .together in friendship and peace and will do so if let alon by the dirty libertine who are trying t dissatisfy them in order to get theirvote. There is a place for the white man, there is a place for the negro and each feels easier, hap¬ pier and better while filling place. Nowhere will the negro ever re¬ ceive better treatment than in the south, no where in the south does lie receive better treatment than in Georgia; no where in georgia does he receive better treatment than in Rockdale county and Con¬ yers, by no party does lie receive better treatment than by the De¬ mocrats. By them they are given laws that protect their homes and their children; by them are they given laws that educate their children : by the Democrats are they given lawH that secure to them every civil right that is given to any whitenmn. Social laws belong to individuals and the white man or negro who attempts to over-ride them does a violence to his race an to his own family, We say in all candor, negroes, do not be deceieved by lying tonngues. If you have a betteer friend in this county a moung any party than Ed. of this paper, point him out. Wo have never approved of your long years of bondage; we have never advocated your colonization, we have never sought to have enacted laws unjust to you. We believe the negro is the best, laborer the South will ever have, far prefera¬ ble to an- foreigners. We are of those who believe the South be¬ longs to the white men and negros who were raised here and by them we want to see it developed—each working in his proper sphere—the sphere given to them by God, by nature and by circumstances. Kisses And Glcry. Kisses glory and pensions are set over against the toils oO var It is questionable whether the balance is not unduly loaded against peace. War is made unduly attractive when its rewards are multiplied. Time was when glory Vas valor’s sufficient recompense. Later pensions were invented' to cnarm souls incapable of glory's thrill. Now that an osculatorv bonus is thrown in there is danger that our young m«n will all the time be clamorous for war. Are we to be always engaged hostilities with some foreign power. ? The peace party has difficulty as it is to keep our bellicose congressmen from sending other people to the glory field, but with Mrs. MoHavey and Miss Tompkins against them 1 their course is almost hopeless.
