MISSIONARY COLUMN. Devoted to the intrests of the Conyers Auxielary of the Womans Foreign Missionary Society. At a recent meeting of the Wo mau’s Foreign Missionary Society of Conyers, the following paper was read by one of the most earnest and faith I ul of its members. As very few were present to hear it, and as it will help those who have already heard it, H is here repro¬ duced. I haw. been trying for about five months to keep the special fund be fore the Society. I want to urge the members to bear this inm'nd, and be a little more zealous' in its cause. We could so easily euppert a wo man at a Christian school in China if wo would only try. Our hociety numbers forty-two members, and the support of a woman for a whole year is only $40.00. Just think ot it! To be able to save a soul Horn death, and possibly from a worse than death, for one dollar a year. So little for us,and yet how mnc |) for the Lord! We can do jjj^ a little self-denial — by doing without some little article we feel oblige to have but which in doing without for the sake of a fellow creature, would bring happiness indeed lU It is true some of us wilile able to save more than others, but it is the law of self-denial bv which we are judged, and the widow’s mite may mean a great deal more in the of the Lord than tho 1>lC 1 man’s thousands, Now let me beg of you to do all you can, and send in your “special” by the Decern ber meeting, and wo who are pres cut to try, each of us, to see an absent member in the interest of '‘Fund.,’’ Leteach of us feel we are cloii g it, not for any officer cr mem ber of this society. bu t wholly for the Lord, and I’m sure success will crown our elmrls. The outlook in Japan is now somewhat more promising than it has been for several years past, Fer som: time the progress of Christianity has been greatly by the extreme nationalism of the Japans. Japan, as well as many other countries, has been swept over by a wave of materialism. The peo¬ ple are employed in the develop¬ ment of their resources, and the number of prayers picked up at the feet of their idols shows that they pray more for material than spir¬ itual advancement. But it is believed that these hin¬ drances arc not permanent. ' progress during the last year has been hopeful and sure..
