larmiug gfjacnacnt. Stay on the Farm. The disposition of so many voung men to Lav* the farm and come to the city is not creditable to their in¬ telligence. Every city lu the conn*. try is overcrowd.d with this class of helpless young men. T’-ey grow op on the farms with no idea of the tii als and temptations that, beret their class in the large cities. They think they can live in the- cities without tLe toil and drudgery they say is a part of farm life. There are many ways of living in a city., hut there is but one honorable way, and that is sur mounted with a» many trials hardships as taming one’s living on the farm, and that is to earn it hon¬ estly. A young man without a trade will Sad he ha- to work harder to make both ends meet in the city than on a farm. The young uiau who thinks the world owes him a living and that the obligation will be canceled in the cities, makes a mistake that is often learned too late. There is no more room for idlers in the city than on the farm. The criminal class re ceives some of its .jnost vicious re emits from young men who thought they were too smart to be farmers I come to the city, found they had I made a mistake, dropped into bad company and will end their lives on j tbe scaffold or in the penitentiary. ! No, young ■’ man, you are not ., too smart for the farm. „ 1 he smartest . man that ever lived hadn’t sense enough to reach perfection in farm¬ ing. Be independent. While there is always something to do on a well regulated farm, if you have a leisure moment, use it in study or selling the many kinds of goods you will find that are especially made for your benefit. You can always find something to do if you want to work. It you don’t, we have no lime to reas¬ on witfi you. Corn Or Oats For Horses. The comparative value of corn and oats for horses may be briefly stated as follows: The former is deficient iu many of the elements of nutrition so necessary for recuperating the con¬ stant wear and tear which necessari¬ ly takes place in the body of a liv¬ ing animal. On this account horses which are exclusively fed on corn hay do not r iceive that kind of nour¬ ishment which appears necessary for the dno support and maintenance of the animal fabric. Hence, we must not be surprised that corn-fed horses show evidence of being languid by sweating profusely while being work¬ ed, lack of vitality, etc. Oats, on the contrary, contain more of tho ess sential elements of nutrition than any other article of food which can lie fed with impunity to horses. Oats are not only the most natural food for horses, but are decidedly the most nutritious. They are the cheapest, because there is less risk in feeding ihem, and experience fed has proved that horses properly on timothy hay and oats can, with reg¬ ular exercise, good grooming and proper s.mitaiy regulations, be brought to the highest state of phys¬ ical cultuve, ami van perform more work with less evidence of fatigue than when led on any other article of food.
