R, otewart is having some improvements made on his dwell¬ ing greatly improving the appear¬ ance thereby. Rev. A. G. Thomas, of Atlanta, preached a very interesting sermon at the Christian Church last Sab¬ bath morning. Miss Julia Stewart, who is at¬ tending the Georgia Methodist Fe¬ male college at Covington spent Sunday in the city. It is rumored that the Ga. depot at this place will be moved back a few feet and another side track put in at an early day. Miss Olivia Swann, one of Smyr¬ na’s lovliest daughters, spent a few clays in town last week, She was the guest of Mrs. J. P. Rosser. Dr. TV. H. Lee has the handsom¬ est and best airanged Drug Store of any country town in Georgia. This culls for soda water, Lewis. Will somebody tell us how it hap¬ pened that a certain well balanced young man forgot the engagement he had with a young lady the other night? John Williams, alias, “ Wishcve,” colored, was committed to jail last Thursday for stealing corn from the premises of Mr. Jno. McClung. Dr. Quigg preached an able ser¬ mon last Sunday at the Presbyte¬ rian church, after which the sacra¬ ment of the Lord’s supper was ob¬ served. A young lady of Conyers says that all the dudes wear white hats. The loafers club of Conyers has disbanded on account of financial troubles. Reports from various parts of the State show that the rain of Sat¬ urday morning was a .general one, and everywhere welcome and re¬ freshing. Miss Mollie Smith, of this coun¬ ty, was united in marriage to Dr. J. J. Cowan, of Forest Station, last Thursday evening at the residence of the bride’s father. Capt. Ed Robinson’s forces are grading away the entire bank be¬ tween the Oil Mill and the main line of the Ga R. R. and a long siding will be put in. Next week will see the former Editor of this paper a happy man. Had he remained a newspaper¬ man this could not have been as such men are never happy. The marriage of Mr. J. I. Cole¬ man and Miss Eddie Treadwell, of J24 Pryor street, Atlanta, by Hon. Jno. D. Stewart, of Griffin, is an Aounced for Wednesday the 4th of May. Conyers put on quite a business air last Saturday. A large num¬ ber of people from the country were in town and our merchants were kept busy all day attending their wants. Prep irations are being made for an entertainment for the benefit of the Presbyterian church to be giv¬ en one night next week. Aim and & Co. have engaged the services of Mr. J. I. Coleman as a salesman in their establishment. Mr. Coleman has hitherto been successful in all his ! undertakings and we bespeak for him a decided success in the mer chantile line. Mr. Joshua Fincher was ordain¬ ed a minister at Cross Roads church last Saturday. The ordination was conducted by the Revs. Goss, Phil¬ lips, Buchanan and Jones. Corn is generally looking well. Messrs. Charlie and Otto Clot felter visited DeKalb last Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. Nancy Butler, after a pleas¬ ant visit to this community, return¬ ed to her home near Atlanta last Wednesday. Mrs. David Jones, of DeKalb, is visiting relatives in this communi¬ ty this week. Miss Boyd Ogletree, of your city is visiting in this vicinity this week. Miss Boyd is always a welcome vis¬ itor in this section. There was a very enjoyable sing¬ ing last Saturday night at residence of Mr. Wardie Ogletree. The Sunday school at Smyrna is in a flourishing condition. The prayer meeting at Smyrna was conducted last Sunday night by Prof. Joseph Clotfelter. We are glad to know that Mr, Thomas Maddox, who has been suffering with his eyes, is improv¬ ing, Mr. J. G. McNair gave a very interesting talk on the Sunday school lesson at Smyrna last Sun¬ day. After a pleasant visit to her sis¬ ter in Henry county, Miss Ella Tucker returned home last Satur¬ day. Mr. J.
