m j .vUer f d)s o! North Georgia,
Dsapite tl>* threatenng wenther, we
managed to put Conyers to our
backs at about 9 o’clock on June
th -1 ,nt. W 111.1 j
b * 3 o’clock p. m. at which time
the rain commenced pouring in
such torrents as to r-ec" -State our
sounding the night in th:t city.
Inwrcncev'-ile is 1 nice little town.
« id all 0 her oenpiC whom it was
onr rdea«:ire to meet, were clever
an;! hospitable. Among tiiose to
whom we tender special thanks for
courtesies am .Judge Lumpkin,
Clerk Cain, Mr. Patterson and Col.
Wilson, of the Gwinnett. Herald.
Lawrenceville has a splendid Court
House, one indeed that reflects
p^est, credit upon Gwinnett county
and her people.
At fi o’clock, June 2nd, we re
purnf1 our journey, heading direct
f>r Gainesville which town we
r 'ached at 5 o’clock p m. very wet
nnd cold from a chilling rain that
■ommeuot d to fall just, as we were
entering the city. Our Coverings
prevented us from getting a good
look at the town, but from the oc
casional glimpses we chanced to
get from under our embrellas, wc
were favorably impressed with this
thriving little city, Learning from
Camp Bros, the enterprising stable
men of that town, that Capt. J. F.
W hitehead had charge of New Hol¬
land springs for t!i« season, we de¬
cided to brace up, put on some
style and spend the night .at a fash¬
ionable summer resort. New Hol¬
land Springs is two miles from
Gainesville and is one of the most
delightful places we ever visited.
Under the management of Capt.
Whitehead and his estimable wife,
coupled with the beauty of the
place, we would chose this from
among all the summer resorts, if
we had the time and cash to spend
our summers at watering places.
From New Holland we went to
White Sulphur Springs, and if it
wasn’t for water we believe that
w<> would like to spend a few weeks
there.
AOer leaving White Sulphur
Springs, welo^t our wav ini wan¬
dered round in the country some
time before we struck the main
road, which we were forced to leave
in order to “take in” the last named
place. When we were fairly on
our way again, we decided to make
Tallulah Falls our objective point,
aud upon the passage of that resolu¬
tion, Cnpt. Tilley, ourworthv high
chicL was elected unanimously, to
the honorable position of engineer
and driver Cant Tillev has tho
right “hump” for a driver, and
though weighted down with a load
of years, and though his raven
locks have been whitened by the
frosts of many winters, he manages
horses with a skill and dexterity
that would do credit to the youth
of eighteen. Our journey from Lu¬
la to the falls, which we reached at
12 p. m. on the third day. was un
eventful and uninterrupted, except
ly thecommand of our chief “Hop
out” when we reached the foot of a
steep r hill, which command become
monotonously frequsnt before
reached the falls
However t r we drew , rein . at _
lah at 5 o clock on the afternoon of
tt»e 4th dav. By dint of cood for
Mine we were , lucky , enough , to
etire a nice summer cottage, within
tone’s throw of the Falls for
aisatoMi*! sum of• 50 cents per d»v.

gars description. A graphic de¬
scription. that would approach jus
to this splendid place, will in
opinion, never be written by
human pen. Did we possess that
magic ability, second to no writer
that ever lived, we would tremble
fore such a task as describing,
even attempting to describe Tallu
lab Falls. Consequently, an effort
on onr part to give to our readers
anything like a description of the
would team week to those who
have seen them and would fail to
y [V e anv conception whatever of
what they roallv are to those who
have never seen them,
Owing to a slight indisposition
on our part we decided to board the
,. r . r8 for home at Tallulah. Ac
on Monday the 6th we
bid our traveling companions adieu
a jj C j Boon we were clattering along
the Air.Line at the rate of about
40 miles an hour towards Atlanta.
Upon reaching that city we “brush¬
ed up,” took a good square meal
and boarded the Georgia accommo
dution for home. And at eight
I o’clock wo felt a keen sense of de¬
light when we placed our feet once
more on Conyers soil.
“Boughing it” is just splendid.
It gives to one at every place he
chances to pitch camp a home like
feeling though he be many miles
irorn the roof ol his own domicile.
Our boys all stood the trip well,
and returned home greatly recrea¬
ted. Usually the eatables on trips
of this kind are poorly prepared
and common, but we faired like
kings—Having at each me d a vari¬
ety of food that would be tempting
to the eye of the most fastidious ep¬
icure. Before leaving, our compa¬
ny were presented with a sack of
“Climax” Hour by our friends Mc¬
Cord, Wallace & Co., for which wej
return our sincere thanks. Wei j
have eaten often, and manv differ
ent kinds of bread, from different
kinds of flour, but lor the fulu re
give us “Climax.” Tt beats them 1
all. During the trip we passed
through several towns, filled with
clever and enterprising people, but
Conyers still occupies the position
of the best town in Georgia in our
estimation.
We traveled, also, through sev¬
eral counties, large and small, ster¬
ile and fertile, but we can unhesi¬
tatingly and truthfully say, that no
county or section even approached
Rockdale, either in point of a thrif¬
ty citizenship, good crops, or clever
wholesouled, refined people. The
evidences of prosperity or adversity
are unmistakable, hence from what
we saw along the route we are ena¬
bled to speak so favorably and
positively of our own county.
We are glad we took the trip,
first because we enjoj^ed it, and sec¬
ond because we saw enough of oth¬
er sections to make us appreciate
our own home and surroundings at
their true wo-ith.
While the people of the South
are contributing to the Grant mon¬
ument fund, would it not be
enough to remember that the aim
pie headboards of some of their own
dear noble soldier boys have long
since rotted to tlie ground? And
that there are southerners as brave
and true as ever buckled swords
resting in neglected graves.
